Mae Quick, Reporter PRISCILLA BATTLE Blooming Start This academic year, though in its early phase, has been one of excitement for the Sophomore young ladies residing in Joyner HaU, who already know their way about campus and who over the summer contemplated returning, rejoining their many friends and renewing acquaintances from the previous year. For those freshmen young ladies living in Joyner Hall who have never been away from home, the orientation period was one long and nostalgic adjustment to what at times seemed to be a state of chaos. For other iresnman young ladies, the coUege atmosphere is just what was needed to make them aware of the arduous work that is yet to be accomplished, to make them realize that they must pow function as mature individuals, to make them realize that today is reaUty, yesterday is a thing of the past and tomorrow is a completely new world. For those freshman young ladies who have already accepted the challenges and the responsibiUties of a better today, I say with aU sincerity, it is well worth your ef fort and my effort to develop aU ol our potentialities to the best of our abilities. Our dormitory counselors, Mrs. W. M. Gannaway and Miss Bur ton, have reaUy been that added inspiration that was needed to boost our morale. It is through their guid ance and leadership that we wiU de termine whether we accelerate phy- sicaUy, socially, emotionally, and academically. Without their en couraging words and dedicated interest, we will not possess that energetic mind that will be so needed to fulfill our potentialities; this we reaUze and we hope to really enjoy each other this aca demic year. We hope to participate in many constructive and entertaining pro jects that will be conducive in help ing us to grow in social intellect, which is also one of the develop mental aspects in an educational program. No institution can become strengthened without a good founda tion. To build our foundation, the residents of Joyner Hall met and decided upon the following officers to serve as leaders for the 1963-64 Dormitory Association: President, Joyce Barber; Vice- President, Barbara Mosley; Secre tary, Bernice Gilmer; Treasurer, Gwendolyn Cotton; Sergeant-At- Arms, Janet Vaughn; Reporter, Priscilla Battle. Again, may we extend a hearty welcome to the freshman young ladies in Joyner HaU. Welcome Home! Thanks!! The VOICE wishes to thank Mr. Harvey C. Jenkins for his assistance — the photography in this issue.
