THE VOICE...APRIL 15, 1971...PAGE 5 TRUTH IS ALWAYS THE STRONGEST ARGUMENT Honesty plays a very important role in the lives of all people. We find that when the truth is spoken, it is hard for many of us to accept it. Down through the years, people have had many alternatives from basic issues of trut^ They lean toward other factors and sources that can lead to a different way out. Many obstacles are before them and they yield to them. These obstacles cause them to sway from the real truth. The truth hurts some people because it brings out the real persons that they are. They sway from reality to live in a world of fantasy, where there are no conflicts and everything goes their way. The truth has aroused many arguments. People confront the truth with all other al ternatives, trying to derive a different an swer. The truth must be brought forth, be cause lies hurt and destroy the relation ships of close relatives and friends. Lies make progress for a certain length of time, but eventually the truth comes forth. Many times we find deep and resent ful arguments in the presence of inno cent people. Year after year, people live in a world of pretense. The truth of this world will stand above all things. God knows all hearts, and he won't stand for one to con tinue to destroy the lives of innocent peo ple when he is wrong. The truth bounds together a life of honesty and peace of mind for sincere individuals. People are afraid of hearing the truth because of the problems they must face, but the truth shall forever be strong and a lie must weaken. Jacqulan Rogers THE GOLDEN RULE IS THAT THERE IS NO GOLDEN RULE ‘‘Do unto others as you would have them do unto you.” That is supposedly the Golden Rule, but the Golden Rule that we live by is just as stated in my topic. No matter how much you preach the Gold en Rule, somehow, it never really happens. People today, are so elusive. It is very hard to get a point over to them. They want to be treated right but they don't know how to treat others like they want to be treated; in other words, there is a lack of unity that covers the universe. A lack that in volves all of us is right here in Fayette ville on the campus of Fayetteville State University. The lack of unity is between an authoritative source and the students, the authoritative source being Charles “A”, The man is running wild and he’s become attached to certain little things that just can’t vanish. How on earth does Charles expect anybody to put up with his jive? How can we do unto him? or can we do unto him? Would any fool that had any common sense whatsoever take actions that this man seems to lean toward? Here’s a little food for thought; if we, the student body, should rid this campus of Charlie “A just as he is ridding us of some of the most qualified instructors, would we have followed the Golden Rule?? Ruby Bethune A lie never grows old ^(X)P3IA IS THE HAUUCIfJATIOKt OF CHASfP 9Y AKJIMALS ' Very few social orders have changed in the benefit of mankind. Even during the days of Shakespeare, it was stated. The evil that men do lives after them, the good is often interred with their bones so let it be with Caesar.” This evil is usually a lie, a most spiteful, intentional act directed towards the destruction of another’s sensitivity. Our social order is so corrupt that we believe only what we want to believe, and the more offensive it is, the better the conservation. A lie grows with time and during this time develops into a kind of fantastic tale. The truth is never added because we are still living in a world ruled by the belief, “if I can’t make it neither will you.” Until we can advance together, we will remain like crabs pulling each o*er down merely for entertainment. A lie, therefore, is entertainmetn and as long as we require entertainment to live, it can never grow old. Margaret Raynor I MAY DISAPPROVE OF WHAT YOU SAY BUT WILL DEFEND TO THE DEATH YOUR RIGHT TO SAY IT You may say that having an abortion is the right thing to do for unwed mothers. I do not agree, because abortion to me, is murder and murder to me for any rea son, is wrong. Who am I to say that what is wrong? For this reason, I should have enough respect for you to listen to what you say and allow you to say it without fear. You may say that living in sin is alright because you don’t believe in resurrection. I would not agree with you because I be lieve in life after death. Although I do not agree with you, you still have the right to say it. You have this right because you are a human being and all human beings are different and have different ideas. This right to say what you feel is guaranteed to each individual under the constitution, labeled as freedom of speech. I most certainly will not always agree with what is being said, but 1 will not do like Charles “A”. I will have enough respect for my fellow man to listen to him. I will defend to the death his right to state the way he feels instead of killing him for saying it. If you believe in something different from what I believe, I may try to persuade you to come around to my way of thinking, but I certainly will not force or threaten you if you do not. It is my duty to defend your right to say \^at you believe, even if I do not agree. Betty Bullock Freedcan of speech is one of the funda mental rights of man, and it should be pro tected at any cost. Without freedom of speech, there is a large communication gap between government and citizen, and even citizen and citizen. No person has to agree with everyone but everyone has the right to be heard, no mat ter what feeling is created by his views. He should not be hushed up by cutting off his privilege. A good example is the news reported in America compared to news reported in most communist countries. In America all matters are reported so long as there is a public interest. In communist news controversial matters concerning now - communist countries and those sweet smelling matters con cerning communist countries are re ported. The schools can teach all sides of any issue giving everyone the right to ac cept his choice of interpretation or mean ing; on the other hand, just imagine what school would be like without freedom of speech. No one could ever really be well versed on any daily, controversial issues. This freedom of speech should always be protected even if death is the price. Willie J. Carter All men are created equal is one of the biggest lies that has ever been told. It never lived to a true fact. A lie is a falsehood of words which mis leads and deceives. The day Jefferson said, “All men are created equal,” it was a lie and when he finished, it died. This would be a true fact if the ghetto were not filled with Blacks, if unemployment rate among the Black was not higher than the whites. If all men were created equal, the problem of inadequate welfare would not exist. Equal men have the same in quality and rank. Equality doesn’t exist if this quality is missing. The condition of the world today, in cluding its injustice and racial problem, are enough to prove that the statement, “All men are created equal,” is a lie that never lived to be old. Katrisia Graham BILL TO REMOVE TAX ON STUDENTS NOW BEFORE SENATE RALEIGH, N.C., March 18 — A bill Sen. Marshall Rauch says would remove a tax inequity against young people “earning a living with one hand and pursuing an edu cation with the other” has been introduced in the N.C. Senate. Rep. Marcus Short of Greensboro intro duced a companion measure in the House of Representatives. Both seek to broaden an action of the 1967 General Assembly, vrtiich granted an extra exemption of $600 for each dependent in college. Rauch and Short want the same exemption extended to young married couples en gaged in both earning a living and round ing out the education of one or both of the spouses. A couple in their forties vith one child in college is eligible for the extra $600. “However,” Rauch says, “a pair of 20- year-olds with the husband in college is not eligible for the same extra $600. “That just isn't fair. We are discriminat ing against those who are earning a living with one hand and pursuing an education with the other. The least we can do is to provide the same incentive we give under the old law.” Inportoil frMi Fraice, HiMl Madt Ejpiiiriltj Casual rope-toled ffaoet (robber re-«iforeed heel and toe) with canvas tops and atitebed toe re-enforceraent.
