espite Ignominious Year, Pride Kept Them Smiling
From the “Peachite" F.V.S.C.
Did you ever see
a college dying?
Did you ever see a “dream” walking?
Did you ever see a “promise” talking?
Did you ever see a “truth” lying?
Did you ever see a “college” dying?
Well, did you?
If you have never had the occasion to witness such
a ghastly phenomenon as death of a college — STOP
where you are! LOOK at your college! Now, LISTEN
to your college! Do your eyes perceive the beginning
signs of imminent physical deterioration? Do your
ears receive the utterings of waning concern, of at-
titudinal disrespect, of increasing loss of pride?
These are the danger signals of a cancerous and
communicable disease classified as “College Apathy.”
The toxic agents that produce the disease are HERE
and VIRULENT, SPREADING and UNCHECKED, MA
LIGNANT and DEADLY!
The cause of concerned action on the part of the ad-
ministration, faculty, and students is vitally essential
if we are to prevent the physical and attitudinal de
mise of an initially BLACK and PROUD institution
of learning. “College Apathy” has infected far too
many aspects of our college body, ranging from apathy
about the general appearance of our campus to an
ever increasing apathy about personal demeanors.
“College Apathy”, left unchecked, presents a real and
crippling threat to the “spiritual survival” of FVSC.
The physical and attitudinal states existing on our
campus did not just emerge and project themselves
overnight. They did not just conceive and give birth
unto themselves. Rather, these existing conditions de
rived their prenatal nourishment from and found fer
tile breeding grounds in the APATHETIC souls of US!
ALL OF US!

However, contagious —
however deadly. Col
lege Apathy” is not in
curable. There is an anti
dote, there is a workable
remedy, there is hope.
The prescribed cure is
simple, but potent and ef
fective. The cure is
PRIDE! PRIDE in the tra
ditions of FVSC. PRIDE
in the principles upon
which the college was
founded. PRIDE in the
future of a great institu
tion. PRIDE, however,
does not operate in a
vacuum. PRIDE in and
of itself denotes concern.
CONCERN, in turn, de
mands of the individual
conscience some con
structive action reflect
ing evidence of his pride.
The disease, “College A-
pathy,” cannot survive
in the face of genuine
pride. It can find no
breeding ground —It can
find no culture medium.
“College apathy”, in the
face of PRIDE is render
ed harmless, immobile,
and thusly, inoperative.
We are the PRIDE OF
FVSC — We are the “life
substance” of our college
— We are the prescribed
cure! WILL WE save our
institution? Or will we
bury it?
DID YOU EVER SEE A
COLLEGE DYING?”
