Tell it to Myrtle TELL it to myrtle is a new addition to the Voice. Each student can send in his problem by dropping it in the box located in the canteen. Please feel free to send in any problem you might have and MYRTLE will give you an answer. Dear Myrtle, Does the night affect a woman differently than the day? I talked to this woman who was much more friendly and talkative at night. “S.G.” Dear S.G. This may not be so writh all women, but some women gain a sense of security at night. At this time, some women have a higher sense of freedom when it comes to showing emotions or expressing themselves. Dear Myrtle, Being a Christian at Fayetteville State University, I have found it very difficult to find a young lady who is also a Christian. My question is; Are there any respectable young beautiful (Black) Christian young ladies on campus? “Deac” Dear Deac, If I’m not mistaken, you believe in God supplying your needs and desires. I advise you to ask God for someone, and I’m sure if you have the faith he will send you a companion. I think there are some beautiful (Black) Christian women, and I’m sure God will send you one if he sees fit. Dear Myrtle, My problem is of a sexual nature. Whenever I get turned on, the girl gets turned off, and whenever I get turned off, the girl gets turned on. Is there something wrong with me? Frustrated man Dear Frustrated man. Maybe you don’t have enough confidence in yourself. Your problem sounds like it is of a psychological nature, rather than a sexual one. Try building your confidence, and I feel sure that everything will “turn on” just fine. Dear Myrtle, I have a problem with women. I can’t understand when they say something they mean something else. Can you tell me how to solve this problem. “Problemm” Dear “Problem,” The Next time a woman says something that you feel is important, restate what has been said by her, to get the assurance of what she means. I’m sure she will explain it to you if whe really wants you to know what is meant. Dear Myrtle, I am a freshman at F.S.U., and I’m having a problem in adjusting to college life. This is my first time away from home. What can I do? “Hard to Adjust” Dear Hard to Adjust, First you should instill in your mind that you a capable and mature enough to adjust. This is very important. Get your mind away from home and your friends you left behind, and enjoy this wonderful experience of college life. Remember, you are not the only freshman here experiencing his first stay away from home. They are making it and so will you. Letters To The Editor Express your views America's Problem is color What Will Happen to Black Schools Dear Editor, The age old problem in white America, has not and is not that of a class struggle, but that of skin'color. We live today in a country that harbors, supports, and endorses a system, programs, and campaigns to keep the masses of people in darkness of reality, and life’s conditions. My beloved and beautiful black brothers and sisters, we have for such a long time in our lives let our oppressor manipulate and maneuver our way of thinking and bing; that some of you amongst us have come to conclusions that we are wrong to fight him when he is fighting us. We must realize that our oppressor is fighting us in the morning, fighting us at night, and fighting us all in between times. You think that he is your frined, but time will surely tell. Don’t let your love for white people blind you to the reality of what is going on right under your very nose. We must start thinking Brothers and Sisters. Think! think! Think some more! We must begin seriously to guard ourselves against our common sppressor. If you do not take heed and guard yourself against him, he’ll begin to make you love the criminal, as I have seen, and make you hate the one who is the victim of the criminal. This man is deceitful, wicked (by nature), corrupt, and full of all sorts of tricks, to relegate people of color to an inhuman existence. We must not be so easily and continuously deceived by smiling faces and sweet words that we do not need to hear. We must first understand that his nature is all together different from ours, and that his behavior springs from his very nature. And we must from these facts deal with him accordingly. Black people must be aware of the time and their position, and depths of their involvement in facts and truths in this country. For surely realizing these things will start us on our accosted journey for the betterment of Black People of the world. For we have been robbed of the desire to love and do for self and kind. We have been rendered to a position of servitude no matter how high on the white man’s social ladder we may climb. For you are gravely mistaken Black man, when you say that the only way for improving the black man’s plight is “within the framework of America’s system.” As brother Bernard Cushmeer stated in his book This is the One “Fallacies are dangerous. Why? Because they often appear as truth. They may seem reasonable when they are senseless. They frequently look right when really wrong. They resemble sound thinking, but are really unsound.” We are a people, a truly righteous people who have been nursed on lies, lies, and more lied cupped with the roof of evil. Pregnated with white values, a white theology, and a white culture that is opposed to our very existence, you say you are “Free.” But are you really free? Openly realize that the qhite man’s system was not, is not, and will never be built on the pillars of justice to function for and in the sincere interest of Black people of this country. Therefore, we will never be able to truthfully be free until the end of his rule. By As-salaam ‘alaikum Clifton X By C.C.Griffin Reprinted from the Greensboro Dally News Dear Editor, If history repeats itself, I do not look upon restructuring higher education with great enthusiasm of optimism. Minority groups and the institutions that serve them have often been sacrificed and phased out in the processes of merger, integration, and This I believe and a piece of research will establised the validity of the statement. What will become of schools like A & T, Winston-Salem, Nort^ Carolina Central, Fayetteville State and Elizabeth City State Universitites if this drastic change is made? These institutions have experienced tremendous hardships in their efforts to develop first rate schools. One of the greatest handicaps has been the small appropriations given them by the state and federal government. The appropriation to which I refer is on a comparative basis. For example, consider the revenue received by the consolidated university system of which Dr. Friday is president. I listened to the presentation of the study authorized by Governor Dan K. Moore. Duplication was one of the key issues. All of the schools duplicate. Each school must duplicate to a great extent to serve the students. Each school teaches English, Science, Mathematics, etc. Take a look at the School of Engineering at A & T STate. This school has turned out fine engineers for years. These men and women have made and are making great contributions to the state and nation. The school is rated as one of the best in the nation. The big question is “Where will the ax begin and end when the axion of duplication is applied? The black schools are needed and this is a fact of life. The next question is “How can one super trustee board adequately serve all of the universities?” This would be a full time job and who would have the time even if he or she was qualified? The unbiased distributions of funds would be forever under fire. This is the day of computer science and the computer has to be fed the material which is the outgrowth of the mind and nature of man. Human nature cannot be reduced to a mathematical formula. Therefore, there will be no right or fair distribution of funds. It will be easy to tell one school that your proposed program cannot be funded because there is not a need. A trustee board to cover the whole of higher education cannot function effectively. Duplication is an issue, yet North Carolina State University at Raleigh lately can give a degree in Liberal ARts. My candid opinion is that financial aid to the predominant black school of higher education will get worse before it gets better. I am not going to write about written in this area. I shall point out some things that can be seen by the average layman. Go to the black universities in our state and look for paved and lighted parking lots. Tiy to find stadiums and field houses. Talk to legislators and you will be given excuses as to how the Greater Universities get these things and excuses as to why the black universities do not have them. Each administration tries to leave its “footprints on the sands of time.” For example, Charles B. Aycock is known as the educational governor. Terry Sanford tried to go the same route and he made wonderful contributions. Kerr Scott is known as the governor for roads and rural electrification. We have a fine youthful, ambitious, and hard working governor. Governor Robert Scott loves North Carolina and its people. He will leave his “footprints on the sands of time” also. Is There a Generation Gap Dear Editor, Young people today are creating new trends that some conservative parents haven’t quite gotten the hang of yet. Today’s youth are daring in their choice of clothes and bold with their speech. They want to openly discuss the taboos of their parent’s society and thus formulate their own society. They want to wear clothes that in their parent’s day would have stopped a runaway horse and carriage. All this could easily be accomplished in a world of young people only, but there is no such world. Instead, today’s youth have to cope with their conservative parents, debate with them, and win the most arguments in order to be heard at all. While most young people will somewhat agree on fashions and topics of discussion, they are not all intellectual equals. One may be an average student with above average grades. This would be of no great concern to the student, but would probably be a major problem to his parents. They would want to know why his grades aren’t as good as another student’s and demand that he do better next term. The demand, of course is made under the threat of a total loss of minute privileges. Most young people have a disire to please their parents, but how can they please a conservative parent and still keep their individuality? Florence McEarcharn
