Williams Also Win By JOSEPH HOLDEN Terecia Melvin, a 20 year old rising senior from Rose- boro, captured the top post in elections held last Monday when she was named “Miss Fayette ville State University," 1972-73. The other winners in the elect ion were Patricia Spinks, Siler City rising junior, “Miss Home coming,” and Billie Williams, rising junior from Clayton, who was named “Miss Student Cen ter,” the first for the new mil lion dollar office. In all there were 16 candi dates running for the three of fices, but students, as they did in the earlier voting for Student Government Association officers failed to turn up at the polls. Only 495 votes of a potential 1500 were cast. Miss Melvin won in the Miss FSU race with 283 votes, the highest total garnered by a can didate for any office. Emma Mc- Laurin drew 145, with Patricia Gooding trailing with 67. Miss Spinks’ winning total was 138 in the Miss Homecoming race, but had close opposition from several other can^dates. Barbara McNair tallied 91, and Valinda Ray, 82. Others trailing in order were Wandafa Boone and Jacqueline Gill, 70 each, and Jacqueline Tyler, 41. Those trailing Miss Williams’ winning 142 total for Miss Stu dent Center were Lettie Wil liams, 95, Mary Canty, 70, Va linda Carter, 54, Willie Dudley, 35, and Pamela Raye, 29. All three winners expressed some surprise at winning and thanked their supporters. Miss Melvin said her election will “give me a chance to become better acquainted with the stu dent body, and I hope to serve FSU in every way I can,” Miss Spinks said that “1 don’t just intend to hold the position, I intend to support the Broncos in every way possible. I am very proud to have l>een selected homecoming queen.” Miss Williams said she was very proud to be Miss Stu- dent Center because “being the first makes it most beau tiful.” Lake Superior is the second largest lake in the world.
