They m;iy just be the future par ticipants in a prize money golf contest such as these. One such player who has high hopes of maybe participating in one of these tournaments is Vi.ncent Reid, FSU’s blue chip golfer. Reid is from Green- sbt>ro, N. C. where he first got his interest in playing the game of golf. He has received many awards for the sport and has even lettered in it. The coach of the golf team is Coach Moses Walker. Last year the team went to the CIAA Tournament and did pretty well against great competitors from Virginia State, who won the tour nament, Livingston, and Shaw just to name a few. Before the season opened I asked Coach Walker how he felt about the upcoming season and he stated that he was confident. As the season goes along I would like to wish Coach Walker and his men luck and my best wishes on bringing that CIAA Trophy to Fayet teville State University. We had a very lack-lustre season last year,” began head tennis Coach Page Saunders, “we are hoping to improve much this season.” The season will begin March 6, when the Broncos will visit Pembroke State University. Broncos Sign First IVhite Gridder FAYETTEVILLE - Fayetteville State University has signed its first white football player. His name is Kenny Hymes, a highly touted local gridder from Pine Forest School in Fayetteville, N. C. We are very pleased to have Kenny coming to FSU, ” began head coach Ramond McDougal, “I’m sure he will add a lot to our squad.” Hymes is not the first white footballer to play at FSU. James Gasson, a standout rising senior offensive end, was a “walk on” player three years ago. Glasson is also a product of Pine Forest High School. However, Hymes, a 5’10”, 205 pound defensive linebacker at Pine Forest High School last season, becomes the first white player to sign a full football grant-in-aid at FSU. Hymes comes to FSU with high credentials. He was selected as high school All-American candidate by COACH & ATHLETE MAGAZINE and was honorable mention in the 1973 Mid-South 4- A Division III All-Star Team. “I’ve kept up with the Central Intercollegiate Athlete Association Conference the past couple of years. They have turned out some good pros and that’s my ambition. Fayetteville State could be the first step in that direction. I’ll be giving Coach McDougal everything I’ve got, said Hymes.
