Brown, Vice-Chancellor for Academic Affairs at Fayetteville State University, has the op portunity to participate in an educational tour of West Africa during the month of July and the first part of August. According to Dr. Brown, the tour is sponsored by the African-American Institutes’ Educators Association. In Africa Brown, who came to Fayetteville State University approximately two years ago, said that his acceptance to participate depends upon whether he can clear up the vital work of his office to the point he can afford to be away for approximately six weeks. If anyone has any mental problems, Mary will be happy to help you. (Photo by John B. Henderson) Fairley Named to Trustee Board FAYETTEVILLE - Charles W. Fairley has been named to the Fayetteville Slate University Board of Trustees, Acting Chairman Jackson F. Lee announced today. Mr. Fairley was elected by the Board of Governors of the University of North Carolina, Friday, May 10,1974, at its meeting in Boone, N. C. In making the announcement Chairman Lee said that Fairley will fill the unexpired term of the late Dr. G. L. Butler, former Fayetteville State University Trustee Board Chairman. The unexpired term runs through June 30, 1977. Fairley brings a wide range of experiences to the FSU Board, especially in the area of planning. According to Chairman Lee, this expertise will be important as FSU charts new directions in higher education. Fairley, Executive Director of the Fayetteville Redevelopment Commission, is a native of Greensboro and completed his undergraduate education at North Carolina A & T State University. He has done additional graduate work in sociology and participated in many workshops and seminars pertaining to housing urban renewal and planning. Prior to coming to Fayetteville, Fairley was part of an award winning redevelopment project in Greensboro. From 1964-68, Fairley was Director of Project Operation, Redevelopment Commission of Greensboro and from 1963-64, he was Project Manager of the Commission. Fairley is a lay reader in the Episcopal Church, a member of the Consulting Committee of the Diocese of East Carolina; National Association of Housing and Redevelopment Officials past member of the Board of Directors and past Vice President; Carolinas Council of Housing, Redevelopment, and Codes Officials; member of Board of Directors, Fayetteville-Cumberland Area Chamber of Commerce; Board of Directors, Keep North Carolina Beautiful and many other civic organizations.
