Henderson) Tommy Mitchell, a 1971 graduate of Jacksonville Senior High School, has been elected president of the Student Government Association of Fayetteville State University. Mitchell is the son of the late Tommy Mitchell and Mrs. Sarah Mitchell of 2226 Onslow Drive. Mitchell’s victory was a “land-slide” as he received 65 percent of the votes with several candidates running. He transferred from Coasts Carolina Community College to Fayetteville State in 1972 and is presently a rising senior majoring in Math. He averaged a 3.0 this year for the first semester out of a possible 4.0. Serving as frrahman class president assistant, a member of the Men’s Assembly and as a SGA attorney, Mitchell has been one of the best or one of the most active students at Fayetteville State. He is the first student at FSU to advance from SGA Business Manager to President. On his election as president, Mr. Mitchell stated, “It gives me a great honor to become president of the Student body of FSU. It gives me a great honor to show the young generation a way to success in this complex society. It also gives the op portunity to prove to the younger generation that success is not down a straight road but, it is down a rough road. I hope that the graduating college seniors are aware of the price of success.” “That which is worth achieving is worth working for.” Mitchell stated that his goal as SGA president is to improve relations between the people of Fayetteville and the students of FSU. PHOTOGRAPHIC VISIONS FAYETTEVILLE - Fayetteville State University student Gilbert Foust is majoring in the area of business administration. But he has visions of photographic skills. “Ever since I can remember,” began the second year student at FSU, “I’ve loved photography and I’ve wanted to be the best in the business.” The son of a retired military sergeant, Gilbert has traveled immensely. This experience has given him a chance to see many people, many countries, and a great deal of the United States. In fact, he did a lot of traveling before finishing high school which gives him a keen insight regarding people and how to photograph them. “I like to take people mostly,” said Foust, “however, I want to learn more about other areas of photography because my main goal is to work for a major magazine such as Ebony.” Recently Foust was chosen as editor of the Fayetteville State University 1974-75 Yearbook the FAYETTEVILLUN. He looks to this with great pride. “I want to produce the best yearbook the school has ever had,” he said. Foust has had news photos from Fayetteville State University to appear in many major newspapers along the eastern coast. He works closely with the Public Relations Department at FSU and is one of the chief photographers. His photos have appeared in such papers as the Fayetteville Observer Times, Fayetteville, N. C.; the Journal and Guide, Norfolk, Va.; What’s Hap pening Now, Fayetteville, N. C.; Wilmington Journal, Wilmington, N. €.; the Afro- American, Baltimore, Md.; the Chronicle, Charleston, S. C.
