Burney has been named Acting Chairman of the Division of Business and Economics and Department Chairman of Business Ad ministration and Economics at Fayetteville State University. The announcement was made by Chancellor Charles “A” Lyons, Jr. of Fayetteville State University. Burney comes to FSU from Alabama State University, Montgomery, Alabama, where he held the position of Acting Dean of the College of Business and Economics and Professor of Economics. A native of Birmingham, Alabama, Dr. Burney received his undergraduate training at Florida A. & M. University. He is a recipient of the master’s and the Ph.D. degree from Florida State University. Dr. Burney holds mem berships in the following professional organizations: American Economic Association, American Education Association, American Academy of Social Sciences, and the Florida Education Association. Henderson) FAYETTEVILLE Dr. Maurice B. Hayes has been named Associated Professor of Education and Psychology and Director of Development and University Relations at Fayetteville State University. The announcement was made by Dr. Charles“A” Lyons, Jr., Chancellor of FSU. An alumnus of Fayet teville State University, Dr. Hayes comes to FSU from Sampson Technical Institute , Clinton, North Carolina, where he served as Dean of Adult Education for ap proximately two years. A native of Wilson, North Carolina, Hayes received the M.A. degree from New York University, and the Ph.D. degree from North Carolina State University. His professional ex periences include instructor and principal, West Hoke Elementary School, Raeford, North Carolina and has over 21 years experience in elementary education. His professional af filiations include membership in the National Education Association, North Carolina Community College Adult Education Association, Adult Education USA; North Carolina ABE Advisory Committee-Coordinator Man power Training. Dr. Hayes has served as president of the Hoke County Teachers Association, scoutmaster, advisor to the Minister and Pastor (Mt. Olive Baptist Church and Baptist Union Church) and Chairman of Hoke County Community Action. Dr. Hayes A Navy veteran, Hayes has written two unpublished works. They are: “A Study to Determine Attrition in ABE Classes in Sampson County, North Carolina”, and “Suggested Guides for the Beginning ABE Ad ministrator” He is a member of the Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity. Dr. Hayes and wife, Hazeline, are the parents of three children, Bernard, (21), Beverly, (19) and Valeria (8). The older two are enrolled at North Carolina State University in Raleigh, North Carolina.
