Just ask Federal City College, Fort Bragg (N.C.), Norfolk State College, and Shaw University’s football teams about this 5’7”, 195 pound linebacker for Fayetteville State University football squad. He is the shortest player on the Fayetteville, N.C., based squad and is a native of Miami, Florida. Some of the above-named squads were laughing when jersey 67 of the FSU Broncos trotted on the playing field but they were not laughing when the game was over. In a losing effort at Norfolk State, and the Broncos led until the final quarter, and the opposition kept asking after the game about Tony “Too Short” Reid. “Who is that guy?” one player asked. “He may be short but he can hit.” responded another. Presently the math major is second only to fellow linebacker Arnold Johnson with ten unassisted tackles and fourteen tackles in four contests. What does the Floridian have to say about his aggressive play on the defensive line? “Well, I don’t really feel that I’m too short for the linebacker spot and I hang in there with the best of them,” began Reid. How does he feel about the ribbing and kidding by his fellow players and oppostion? “It really doesn’t bother me that much. I just concentrate on my job and try to make the necessary contact. I just like to hit.” And the opposition knows that he likes it, too.
