MARCH 30, 1975 THE VOICE PAGE 3 FSU HOSTS REGIONAL MEET ‘"WeCcoine CULTURAL AR AND SCIENC raORDINATOR FSU HOSTS REGIONAL MEET- Dr. DeField T. Holmes (extreme right), FSU Vice-Chancellor for Fort Bragg-Pope AFB Campus and Continuing Education, welcomes publishing representatives Earl Castellow and Ruth Spies along with FSU coed Genevieve Humprey to the Cultural Arts and Science Regional Meet held in the Women’s Gymnasium recently. Four hundred or more public school teachers from nineteen areas and counties were welcomed through personal memoranda by Chancellor Charles “A” Lyons, Jr., and personally by Dr. DeField T. Holmes, Vice Chancellor for Ad ministration, to the Cultural Arts and Science Textbook Regional Meeting. Textbook presentations from a dozen or more textbook publishing companies, and several state consultants presented teaching materials relevant to grade levels K - 8 in the cultural arts and K - 12 in the sciences. Mr. Paul H. Taylor, Director, Division of Science Education and Mr. James R. Hall, Director, Division of Cultural Arts, both from the Department of Public In struction, stated that the purpose of the meeting was to help classroom teachers become intelligently involved in the selection of the books they will be using. Several departments and areas of Fayetteville State University had on display the university story in regard to the resources and op portunities that are available. The displays were elaborately prepared and had a great impact on the public school teachers who visited the campus for the first time. The departments and areas that participated were as follows: (FSU Photo by John B. I m A BRONCO INSIGHTS SET FOR SPRING BREAK AT FSU - Pretty Cynthia Flournoy, a freshman Fayetteville State University coed from Bennettsville, S.C., is all set for the spring break which covers a week and commenced March 28. Students at FSU will return to classes on April 7. ( fsu photo by john b. Henderson) With Clararene Jacobs “WHO IS THE GIRL WITH THE SMILE” It’s a Bronco. And for whom is the smile? The smile is for mankind, everywhere. And it is there for a purpose, that purpose being to say to the world, “smile and be glad that we had this chance to share our styles.” I am a child of the universe and the smile is for you. So smile Broncos and let the world know that we are “no less than the moon and the stars.” SPRING FREEDOM! It’s a beautiful existence - with bare necessities or im moderate luxuries - life is the best thing that has ever happend to me. And now to add to the luster of life; the rustle of the wind, and the whistling of the night - the unmistakable signs of spring. While I watch the shadows of the season I’ll think of long lost yesterdays and dream of bright tomorrows. But I will also stop and think of today. This day is the most important day of my existence, because I will structure the path of my tomorrow today. And life itself will struggle to engulf me and my destiny. And spring will be a weapon against me; making me forget my duties and neglect my studies, and wander about in the light of the sun. But I’ll find myself just in time and I’ll live up to my responsibilities. For I am the keeper of my world — I am strong; invincible; and I am free. THE SEASON IS GONE To everything there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven: A time to be born, and a time to die; A time to laugh, and a time to cry. There is a time for uprising and a time for silence. We, the FSU family, have recently experienced an uprising and all that could, or should be said, has been said. So now tne reasonable thing left to do is to dissolve the issue and try to solve the problem. It is well known that the majority of the negative stands which people take are taken blindly and without solution, whatsoever. But the complaint is loud and demanding and then the instigator is finishsed. Remember that anyone can see the wrong in the world - and that’s no big thing. But can anyone make it right? There is a time to be silent, and a time to choose; A time to win, and a time to lose. But in losing we should be strengthened and gain un derstanding. And we should understand, a little better, the fate of those who have never won and be inspired to do all that is in our power to once again be a winner. There is a time for scattering stones, and a time for gathering stones; A time for keeping, and a time for throwing away. The season is over and the chance to be the 1975 CIAA champ has been lost, or thrown away, or whatever; but, there will be another basketball season and another chance; with the crowd cheering and the team confident, and we will win the cham pionship. There is a time for war, and a time for peace. For all Broncos, I’m wishing for love, soul, and a time of peace. WAKE UP PEOPLE! Wake up people It is a brand new day, You can keep your morals, your values, your ways, You are what you are, right down to a tea I am not trying to change you but make you see more objectively. Although I may be fast in the things I do, and you may be slow, what the heck, what else is new. Just because I do things fast does not mean I am fast. I simply communicate at a different pace than you. I try to relate to everything I do, even if I feel I am wasting my time, which may be true. I try to be open in expressing myself, I guess I am a little too open for you. You say I am bold, I am hip, I am kool. When really I am not, ’cause these are things I normally do. I am not saying my life’s an open book I am not saying I have no shame, but to relate, and communicate is being yourself, and being yourself, is to open your mind and body to experience things you have never experienced before. To really understand something. To Love, To Respect, Be Honest, Be Truthful, and better yet. Be Gentle to seme who may not see the beautiful things Openess has done for Thee! d. Simmons
