APRIL 30, 1975 THE VOICE PAGE 5 FSU Honors and Awards Day Held April 22 FAYETTEVILLE - The 18th Annual Honors and Awards Day was held Tuesday at Fayetteville State University at 10:00 a.m., on the Athletic Field, April 22. The speaker for the oc casion was Dr. Joffre T. Whisenton, Associate Executive Secretary, Com mission on Colleges of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools, Atlanta, Georgia. Miss Mary S. Carter, FSU senior with the highest cumulative average, presided and Dean J. A. McCoy, Associate Dean of Students introduced the speaker. Dr. W.C. Brown, Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs at Fayetteville State University, made presen tations of awards and recognized honor students. Also, Dr. Brown recognized thirty-two FSU students who have been nominated to Who’s Who Among Students in American Universities and Colleges. The ChanceUor of the University, Dr. Charles “A” Lyons, Jr., gave remarks and music was furnished by the University choir directed by Dr. Lemuel Berry and the University band directed by James Evans. Raleigh Mayor Highlights Town Meeting FAYETTEVILLE - Raleigh Mayor Clarence E. Lightner was the highlight guest at the second annual Cumberland County town meeting series Tuesday, April 22, at 7 :30 p.m. in the Cum berland County Courthouse, Fayetteville, North Carolina. Mayor Jackson F. Lee of Fayetteville presided as moderator of a panel which discussed the topic: “How Should City Govern ment Function?” Other guests on the panel were John A. Jones, City Manager of Wilmington, North Carolina, and Charles Fairley of the Cumberland County Redevelopment Commission. The Town meeting series are sponsored by Uie Division of Continuing Education at Fayetteville State University and the North Carolina Humanities Committee.
