PAGE 4 THE VOICE MAY-JUNE, 1975 Queen Jones: Two Queens in One by Sheryl Alexander Twenty-one year old Queen Jones says that becoming two queens is both an honor and a privilege for her. “Everyone likes the idea of becoming a queen. When I became Miss Homecoming and Miss FayetteviUe State University at the same time, I was thrilled, happy, and enthused I was especially honored because there has never been a Miss Homecoming and Miss FSU combined,” she said. Queen, whose full name is Queen Elizabeth Jones, comes from a family of ten, of which there are only three children remaining at home. Her home is Ridgeland, South Carolina, where she resides with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Henry Luther Jones, Sr. Queen is a sociology major and has expressed a desire to attend graduate school although she is uncertain as to her course of study there. Her philosophy of life is related to an incident involving a high school counselor in which she was told: “If at first you don’t succeed, try and try again.” She feels that with a philosophy like this, “you just can’t go wrong.” In Queen’s opinion. Miss FSU should not be selected because of physical qualities but because “she has the quality of representing the people to the fullest extent.” She looks down upon those who give top priority to physical beauty. Queen is a member of Tan Phi Coca Social Organization, whose main purpose is “to unite people of the world.” She at tributes much of the apathy and lack of unity among students to sororities and fraternities and believes that if a black school is to achieve unity sororities and fraternities must be abolished. She does, however, evidence a type of unity among students who are attending summer school this session, attributing this partially to the small number of students on campus during the summer. During her reign as “two queens” she plans to meet a variety of people, travel, and get involved with situations that will bring public attention to FSU. If given the opportunity to compete in nationwide beauty contests, she says she would definitely accept the offer. Can you blame her???? FSU Choir Completes Successful Tour The forty-three member Fayetteville State University Choir and Vocal Octet, under the direction of Dr. Lemuel Berry, recently completed a spring concert tour which covered over a dozen states and lasted eleven days.
