Much to the contrary, Gilbert plans to use his position to become an in strument in achieving unity and awareness on the part of students here at FSU. Among the things he will strive to accomplish are “more student and community involvement in events effecting the country as a whole, a realization of one another and just generally appreciating each other a little more.” Gilbert feels that he is capable of fulfilling the demands which will be made of him as president of SGA. He has worked on the SGA board for three years and has a genuine concern for the way our students are represented. Gilbert is twenty-one years of age and is originally from Roseboro, North Carolina where he resided with his grand parents, Mr. and Mrs. Jesse Owens. Having been bom under the sign of Taurus makes him a president and efficient person in getting things done. Gilbert’s philosophy of life is that black people will achieve great heights if they possess strength and determination. “Our main problem is each other. If we get ourselves together, there’s nothing the white man can do to hurt us in any way. ’ ’ When asked how he felt about Tommy Mitchell’s ad ministration he replied: “Tommy had a very good ad ministration. I think it’s the best we’ve had since I’ve been here. Tommy was good, but he had the potential to be even better. I benefitted a great deal from working with Tommy during his administration. His ideas, way of thinking, and getting things done were good. They will enable me to become more efficient.” In closing, Gilbert added, “If my administration turns out to be the greatest that’s ever been here at FSU it will be because of the students, if it fails, it will also be because of the students.” M.
