THE VOICE
MAY-JUNE, 1975

He must stand tall
For I will look up to him
He must think clearly
For I will need his guidance
He must be brave
For I will depend upon him
He must be natural
For I can only love what is
real
He must demand the best
For I am the best
He must be sensitive
For I love to touch
He must be tolerant
For I am sometimes hard to
understand
He must be honest
For I will trust him
and he, me
DO YOU KNOW MY NAME?
IT’S THE SAME AS YOURS
“TO THE STRANGER”
Today you said a kind word
for no reason
Or did for me that favor that I
needed but
couldn’t (or wouldn’t) ask of
you
When my friends are kind
I appreciate it
because I realize that
they know my good points
and bad
And nevertheless
love me
But you
a stranger
could only have for a motive
the desire to help another
person.
For lack of time
in this rushed world,
I couldn’t thank you properly
But I will thank the world for
you
by spreading that kindness
you so generously gave me.
And we’ll watch it grow.
Could I open the door to
my mind
for you.
So that I could let you
know
about me.
If you looked in,
and I looked out
and we really saw
each other
WE COULD LEARN TO
LOVE

CONGRATULATIONS
When we achieve,
many times a person
on the outside
can’t really see
where we came from
and where we’re going
But each of us
in our own moment of
Achievement
has the satisfaction of
being
happy
inside
Is tomorrow the future,
or just an extension of today?
Sometimes I’m reading.
And you walk across the page
And the rhythm of your
footsteps
is music
And your face is a beacon for a
lonely night
And your love feels like the
sunset
on an autumn day.
Sometimes I sleep
And your presence vibrates
my being
And sends dandelions to keep
me
company
And a song to talk with me.
Sometimes I sit and think
And smile at you and me
Or look in the mirror and see
the wall behind it
Or walk in the dark and feel
the sunshine.
“THE SUN”
Rises and climbs
and after it reaches its
Height
There’s nowhere for it to go
but
Down,
But tomorrow it
Rises
Again.
Some days,
we live more than
others
And the more living we do,
the better we feel as we
lie down to
Rest and
wait
for
tomorrow
“on life, i mean death”
a seed, a beginning
follows the natural
course of events,
but how unnatural.
young yet ancient
and perhaps timeless,
where there is
life
there is
death.
but what is lost as death
becomes
life
or gained as life becomes
death
or understood as meh become
wise
“man”
caught in the web
of his genius
searching for simplicity
but lost
in his own complexity
and achieving nothing
but greatness
Survey Reveals - ■ Most
Students Planned to Enter
Summer School
by Sheryl Alexander
There was an increase in
student enrollment for the
first session of summer school
here at FSU. This survey was
taken to determine just how
much affect, if any, job
scarcity had to do with
enrollment figures. These are
the answers given by students
when questioned as to why
they decided to come to
summer school.
TIM MARRIOT, (jr.) - I’ll
graduate sooner by coming to
summer school.”
ROBERT HENDERSON,
(sr.) -1 couldn’t find a job and
that had a lot to do with my
decision.
JEAN TEEL, (jr.) - I’ll
finish sooner, but the lack of
jobs had no affect on my
decision.
THERESA LUCAS,
(soph.) - I only came to
summer school to graduate
©3 rlicr
CATHY WHITE, (jr.) -
Jobs are tight but I planned to
come to summer school to
finish earlier.
EUGENE LOFTY, (jr.) -
I came to get in some extra
hours and the economy had
very little to do with my
decision.
SAM POWELL, (jr.) - I
want to finish school, jobs are
tight.
REGINALD WHITAKER,
(jr.) - I’m not attending
summer school this session. I
hope I’ll be able to attend next
session. Job scarcity
definitely had an affect on my
decision not to come.
CLEOPATRA WASHING
TON (soph.) - I came to get
ahead faster.
JOANN MCPHAL,
(soph.) - I came to graduate
earlier earlier.
EVA CARPENTER, (jr.)
- I came to summer school to
graduate earlier, and lack of
employment had no affect on
my decision.
This survey indicates that
the majority of students who
enrolled for the first session of
summer school at FSU did so
in order to complete school in
a shorter period of time. The
majority questioned said that
the fact that there is a scarcity
of jobs had no affect on their
decision to come to summer
school. It is my opinion based
on the information given
about the scarcity of jobs has,
indirectly, influenced the
decision of many students who
are now attending summer
school. These students want to
finish school earlier in order
to find jobs and practice their
skills in a world where
competition is becoming
keener each day.
