FEBRUARY-MARCH, 1976 THE VOICE PAGE 7 Baher Wins “ilfVP” Award At ROTC Tourney At East Carolina Monte Baker, a senior business administration major from Laurinburg, N, C., was named “Most Valuable Player” in the an nual Air Force ROTC basketball tournament at East Carolina University. Baker, a member of the varsity Bronco basketball squad for three years, is a member of the Air Force ROTC Detachment at FSU and served as player-coach for ROTC team which finished third by defeating East Carolina’s team, 61-53. Last year the Broncos won the ROTC tournament. The FSU team lost by one point to the University of Maryland-Eastern Shore in the opening round, 46-45. The tourney was played at Minges Coliseum at ECU in Greenville, N. C. and the Bronco ROTC squad played two games March 19, the opening round of the two-day affair. FSU dropped North Carolina Central Universtiy’s ROTC squad, 72-42, and later defeated Duke University, 58- 42. Players representing FSU’s AFROTC were Monte Baker, Dennis Bellamy, Allen Chavis, Shelton Fisher, Phillip Gatling, Marcus Livingston, Thomas McLauchlin, Paul Murphy, Henry Porter, and Chris Strickland. Sergeants Brackeen and McDowell were the team escorts. Maryland-Eastern Shore won the tourney this year by defeating A & T. However, the Broncos have vowed to “take it all” next year as they did in ‘75 when they brought the championship trophy back to Broncoland. Mclver, a native of Hamlet and team leading rebounder, was named to the All Central In tercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) Conference for 1975-75. Barrows, a leading scorer for the squad, and Hempstead, N. Y. native, was named to the Dist. 29 All-NAIA squad. He averaged over 18 a game.
