Woodcock, a senior at Fayetteville State University, was notified recently by the National Rifle Associaiton that he has been selected as a member of the 1976 NRA All American First Team, Pistol. In addition to recognizing Woodcock’s shooting skill and con tributions to the sport, this designation qualifies him to participate in the tryouts for the 1976 Olympics. Woodcock began firing in collegiate pistol competition while a cadet at the Air Force Academy during the 1971-72 academic year and has continued to compete since becoming a student at Fayetteville State University in 1974. In each of his first three years of collegiate com petition he placed high in the National Individual Cham pionships. In his freshman year, (1971-72) he ranked 4th in International and 9th in Conventional courses of fire; in 72-73 he ranked 7th in In ternational; and 73-74 he ranked 11th in International and 8th in the Conventional courses of fire. The current- year’s ranking is still unknown. Woodcock stated that the coaching and other assistance rendered to him by the Ad- vanced Marksmanship Training unit headed by Captain Johnson at Fort Bragg has made an important contribution to his achievement. Mr. Woodcock has been the Commander of the AFROTC Cadet Corps at FSU this spring and will be com missioned a Second Lieutenant in the Air Force on May 15, 1976. He will be delaying his entry to active duty to pursue a medical degree at Meharry Medical Collete in Nashville, Ten nessee beginning this fall. AEROSPACE The Department of Aerospace Studies held its annual AFROTC Dining-In Banquet i-ecently at the Pope AFB Officer’s Club. The guest speaker was Brigadier General Rufus L. Billups, Commander of the Defense Supply Agency, Richmond, Virginia. Honored guests included Dr. DeField T. Holmes, Provost and Vice Chancellor For Academic Affairs, Dr. Luther M. Mc Manus, Assistant to the Chancellor, and Colonel David H. McElveen, Vice Com mander, 317 Tactical Airlift Wing, Pope AFB, N.C. The Dining-In included a formal reception and dinner, followed by General Billups’ speech and an awards ceremony. Cadets honored with awards included; George Addison, Monte C.
