Bill Hennessee, Sports and Program Director of WIDU, will handle the play- by-play and is the “Voice of the Broncos”. He has broadcasted all games since the beginning. A veteran of over 18 years of broadcasting, Hennessee will be aided by H.R. “Hubie” Doub who will handle the color broadcasting chores. Fayetteville State Opens 1976 Football Drills Aug. 9 With Optimistic Outlook by John B. Henderson, FSU Sports Information Coach Ray McDougal, 1975 “CO-CIAA-Coach-of-the- Year” and Dist. 29 NAIA “Coach-of-the Year” for a second time in less than four years, sounds quite optimistic toward the coming 1976 gridiron campaign although he will be minus All-American running back James Godwin who broke every rushing record at Fayetteville State. The likeable Florida-born Bronco mentor is expecting approximately 90 candidates to report to pre-season drills August 9 and hopes to improve on his best record last year (7- 3) since coming to FSU six years ago. The Bronco gridders will play a nine-game schedule this year with one open date and kicks off the season against cross-town rival Fort Bragg on September 11. In all, the McDougal- coached squad will play seven CIAA conference contests and two non-league games with one open date. Personnel-wise, Coach McDougal feels that his 76 edition will be strong in the secondary, strong with receivers, but the backfield will be completely new. “We’ll probably pass more this year with the fine crop of receivers returning,” began the coach. “We’ll certainly miss the running of Tim Heath and James Godwin but we have some candidates who may take up the slack.” FSU has some 18 juniors and seniors returning to camp this year and McDougal will rely heavily on this crop of players plus newcomers and freshmen to build a com petitive squad. “Our quarterback situation appears to be intact with Carlos Bailey returning. Of course, Ron Crawford is expected to have a good year at wide receiver along with Andre Sloan, Mike Smith, and Chester Hariston who also had good hands and speed,” McDougal said. Bailey, a junior from New Jersey, threw approximately ten TD passes last year before being sidelined at mid-season with an injury. The offensive line, ac cording to the coach, will be strong but the defense will suffer graduation losses.
