L A D Y B R O JV c o CIAA CHAIftPS FSJU l^ames JVew Assistant Athletic Director and Coach When Kirkland Hall left Fayetteville State University to become Head Basketball Coach at Maryland Eastern Shore, Coach Robinson lost a valuable assistant coach and assistant athletic director. He knew finding a quality assistant who knew his program (Hall played for Robinson at Maryland State, now Maryland Eastern Shore) would be, at the least, dif ficult. But Robinson found more than an adequate replacement when he was able to pry Coach Jake Ford for Vorhees College in Den mark, South Carolina. Like Hall, Ford played collegiate basketball under Coach Robinson at the University of Maryland Eastern Shore. A three year starter at University of Maryland Eastern Shore, Ford led his team to the finals of the NAIA National Tour nament in Kansas City once and to the semi-finals once. In 1969, Ford was named Most Valuable Player in the NAIA Tournament as well as to the All-Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) Team. In 1970, Ford was named First Team All- American as well as Player of the Year in the CIAA. Upon completion of his stellar collegiate career. Ford spent three years in the National Basketball Association playing for the Seattle Supersonics. From there Ford went on to continue his education at Indiana University. In 1974, Ford received his Masters degree from Indiana and was named Head Coach at Vorhees College. His coaching abilities became quickly apparent as Ford’s team won the South Eastern Athletic Conference and he was named conference Coach of the Year. In 1978, just before leaving Vorhees, Ford was once again named (3oach of the Year. Jake Ford is half of a successful coaching family. His brother, Hank, is the Head Coach at Hampton Institute where last year he led Hampton to its best record ever and was named Coach of the Year in the CIAA. Ford is married to the former Miss Joslyn Booker of Richmond, Virginia, a graduate of Virginia State College and Indiana University. Mrs. Ford is also a new member of the Fayet teville State University family. EXPRESSIONS EXPRESSIOIVS EXPRESSIONS ThinUing of You There are lots of intimate greetings Going on from day to day With thoughts that are meant to cheer and brighten someone’s day But none could be more sin cere Than these “special three” that “I” say unto you I LOVE YOU. GEW-QUE S December There are many dates to remember For me the date, 6 December December 6 was in years past just a date that opened and shut like a gate. Now I know that 6 December is a date to remember 6 December turned out to be more than a lemon The sweetness that I will long remember Came to me on 6 December. GEW-QUE All Kinds It takes all kinds of people to ■■ make a world, it’s true But there are few as won derful in every way as you. And so, of course, it wouldn’t do to miss this chance to say You’re thought of and remembered in an extra special way! GEW-QUE With You I’d like to be with you today if only for a while I’d like to share your company and see your cheery smile. But since that seems im possible I’ll do the next best thing And visit you in heart and thought by just remem bering. GEW-QUE LOVE Love is a feeling...of joy and delight...It makes you think...all through the night...you wonder what will happen...the next day...will we break up...or will things stay okay...I pray and ask God...withall my heart...to let us remain together...and never depart...Love is to care...for someone in need...to never let down...to always succeed. Valery Joy Frazier Ifly Beautiful Dream KC PARTS OF IflE I have a mind which I shall use... To make my choice, to do or refuse. You can not make me fall your way... If I have no feelings on what you say. My heart is soft, but can be strong... Especially when you’ve done me wrong. So do not take a piece of it... Until you feel for me, a little bit. My knees may ache when I feel weak... Therefore you must stand near my feet... In case I fall, you’ll help me stand... If you are what you say, a man... Don’t think you know me by my eyes... For I can fool, I can disguise... I may look as though I care... And you’ll feel so just by my stare... My mouth brings out the real in me... When I wanna talk, it just runs free... If I shut up for a minute or two... One reason is because I’m tickled at you... These parts of me, you can not take... Because they’re mine, for Heaven’s sake. Valery Frazier My eyes were closed and you became A victim of my dream. The one who came into the light The one who came into the light Out from the darkened scene You held out your hands for me To pull me in your arms So I gave in to become A Victim of your charm And, oh how beautiful it was The words you said to me And the expression on your face When I had to disagree But still my dream was beautiful Cause we both understood That our love would never go bad That it will always stay good. Valery Frazier LIFE Life! You are life, the story that is old as time itself. The most understood and yet the most misunderstood. For you are the beginning and that every changing reality who lives forever and ever! You are hard sometimes. You are soft sometimes. You are your own self-chosen end. But what is my significance? Why have you brought me to this land? Was it my fortune that I was brought from oblivion to inflict my influence upon the world? I see thousand, ten thousands dying and sometimes deep- down in my heart it makes me feel sad, so sad... But what keeps me going is the pleasure of knowing that for everyone that suffers another feels joy and happiness. I have cried for myself and for you but still I wonder. One day I will dare come visit you, high in some distant, present past. For I know as you read each word, each letter, I come closer to you, humble and meek as a wanderer. You have given me wisdom you have given me hope. You have bored through my heart many a night, many a day... But you have given me the capacity to love, to search and to hope. For you withhold something from me that is dear to all that unknowing reality called Future! Life! You are life, the story that is old as time itself. For you are the beginning that every changing reality. We have both asked this question and yet it is most obvious. Open your heart my friend! Look around my love! For your search has ended.
