Reading and learning skills, behavioral skills, an elective in the New Medical College Admission Test (New MCAT) preparation and preprofessional seminars were the other components of the program. At the end of eight weeks of listening, notetaking, testing, reading and more reading, thetwo (FSU) par ticipants were still smiling and their ambitions un daunted. Ms. Foster is a junior interested in Medical Technology, while Ms. Hale is a junior looking forward to practicing family medicine. POLITICAL NEWS NCTTES In the 1976 Presidential election, only about half of eligible blacks and Hispanics were registered to vote — and fewer actually cast a ballot. Among our young people the situation is even worse. Of America’s approx imately 17 million minority voters, 18 to 24 years old, only about 35 percent are registered and only about 25 percent actually voted. More of our people may be voting this year than in the past. Fortunately, something is being done to encourage our people to help ourselves to the right to vote. A nationwide, nonparti san voters’ crusade to fight the erosion of minority poli tical influence is being waged. The objectives of the movement include increas ing minority registration by 20 percent and voter turn out by 75 percent in some areas and generally increas ing minority participation in all areas. The program is planned and coordinated with the help of the Joint Center of Political Studies. For free leaflets, write the center at 1426 H Street, N.W., Wash ington, D.C. 20005.
