Page Eight — THE VOICE — December 1980 Basketball Outlook For 1980-81 Season By John Henderson Sports Information Direction Second-year coach, Jake Ford of Fayetteville State University, will seek to improve his 14-12 overall worksheet and 7-9 CIAA conference mark during the 1979 campaign. However, he admits that it will not be an easy task. “We will be very young and will probably have to use some first-year players along with our veterans right away,” Ford said. Losses suffered through graduation by the Bronco squad include All-CIAA forward Ed Jefferson (24.3 ppg and seven rpg): center Jeff Ballard (12.8 ppg and nine rpg); and James Jackson, guard, five points per game. The Bronco quintet will be led this season by junior guard Richard Robinson, who averag ed over 10 points per outing. Senior forward Steve Mims, a 6-7 jumping-jack who was second in scoring last year and pulled down over eight rebounds a game, also second on the squad in this category, will be one of the keys to Bronco success this hardwood campaign. Point guard and senior Charles Peoples along with junior guard Bonny McNeill will be battling for the position in the Bronco camp. Newcomers Lanier Gobbs, Joel Harris, and Craig Talley will help in the rebounding department. "We w'ill be rebuilding this year." Ford said, “and will be- one of the youn^jest and smallest teams in the tough CIAA conference." Wadford Gets CIM Honor Bertie R. C. He is the only repeat CIAA performer. Ike Hall and Kenneth Tillman made the sports writers All CIAA picks. Bertie Wadford made Sports writers and coaches All CIAA.
