Science Building Opens
After more than two years of con
struction, the new Science Complex
was opened in January to students,
faculty and staff. The building is a
modern, contemporary three floor
structure located on approximately
three acres of land. The facility houses
the Division of Physical and Life
Sciences, which consists of the areas of
Biology, Chemistry, Physics and
Physical Science, Mathematics,
Medical and Allied Health Science,
and Aerospace Studies.
Two main attractions in the new
building is the observatory and the
planetarium.
The observatory houses a thirty
foot, sliding track, revolving,
mechanically operated dome for
astrological studies. Included in the
rooftop observatory is a Cassegrain
telescope of 16-inch aperture.
Although the planetarium is smaller
than UNC’s Morehead Planetarium,
this facility is capable of providing the
same type of service.
Each floor is equipped with a con
ference room and a dark-room facility.
Several speciaUty areas are also housed
in the facility, to include a Car
tography Room, Radiation Biology
Laboratory, and a greenhouse. In the
lobby of the complex, a Forcault Pen
dulum is located. This instrument is
used to measure the movement of the
earth.
Dr. Valeria Fleming, Chairperson of
the Division, sees the building as a
learning facility in which the University
family and the Cumberland County
area will utilize and appreciate. She
visualizes the city, county, and Ft.
Bragg school systems using the facility
for speciality programs and activities
pertaining to the area of Life Sciences.
An advisory committee was appoin
ted by Chancellor Lyons last year to
assist in meeting the needs of the
University and the community. The
committee will plan and initiate
programs that will arouse and
stimulate interest and support.
FSU looks forward with great an
ticipation to sharing this facility with
everyone in the southeastern part of
N.C.

his deeds, awards, and many of his
spoken phrases, he asked that the
people unite with Stevie Wonder in his
efforts to make Dr. King’s birthday a
national holiday. He stressed that Dr.
King’s dream for freedom and racial
equality was far from being over and
that Black people should continue to
fight for that day when all shall reach
the promised land, hand in hand.
Black and White. He closed his speech
saying, “Thank God for Martin
Luther King and the legacy he left.”

Communists’ Guru And Terriorism
By FIDELEESSONO
The world dailies, weeklies and other
periodicals of the international news
media frequently comment on violent
terrorisms that strike in many parts of
the world today. The real aspect of that
universal cancer has been spread in
various social structures in many coun
tries.
The blame was still pending with a
direct or convicted responsibility of the
infamous deeds. The suspicions have
grown implicating the young
generations as the instigators of these
alienations. Well, the observer will not
be wrong by estimating how close the
relation between the terrorism and the
youngsters whom clearly consented to
adopt the weapons in order to destroy
his environment. The accusations are
linked with economical conditions of
certain third world countries who yield
to adopting the marxist ideology with
the intention to overcome those
political and economical misfortunes.
The dream of becoming master of
one’s own destiny will lead a whole
nation and even affect its constitution.
The rumors for a long time have
been kept in doubt in avoiding making
a clear accusation towards whom is
somehow recognized as the leading
edge of the urban terrorism throughout
the world. Witness have now testified
the provider of those arsenals and the
spiritual leadership to exterminate the
Hving human being. The godfather of
that aimless philosophy is clearly
known as the “Polar Bear” commonly
identified as U.S.S.R. The testimonies
have been made by distinquished of
ficials of intelligence services to direct
some charges against the Soviet Union
for activating the urban terrorism
through an unconditional support by
providing training camps and logistic
assistance to those extremist
organizations. Many proofs are
leading more and more observers to
make clear certain hints obviously
mentioned that the Soviet Union is par
ticipating in the murder of innocent
victims which disagreed to enter in its
sphere of influence. Therefore, the
unique alternative cope with that
necessity is of course to corrupt the
young generation under its ideological
ability. Though some nations have
benefited from the Soviet support to
free themselves from the colonial oc
cupation, the question still remains as
to why Moscow agrees to sponsor the
murders by providing weapons with
the intention to shake up societies with
no Hnk with its doctrinal arena.
The social depression of Italy which
led to the assassination of the Italian
former premier Aldo Moro wears the
prints of the Soviet involvement. The
murder of many political leaders have
been victimized by the Soviet’s vicious
circle. The international aviation is
threatened by those who are called
“the freedom fighters” and who en
danger lives for an ideological ob
session. But we know freedom does not
come from the sky but from a logical
concept and is surrounded by the
wisdom of thinking and in evaluating
facts that will stand to speak for them
selves.
On his nightly report on A.B.C.
Night Line on February 16, anchorman
Ted Koppel interviewed the former
Christine Davidson
When asked what has motivated him to
excel. Bill states, “I try to maintain a
belief in what I call the three C’—
Confidence, Control and Consistency
in all endeavors.” This belief can be at
tributed to the many accomplishments
of Billy Hopkins.
After graduation in May of 1981,
Billy will attend The Ohio State
University where he plans to major in
Education Supervision and Ad
ministration.
Christine Davidson is a junior
Math/Computer Science major from
Fayetteville. A 1974 graduate of Pine
Forest High School, Christine has a
GPA of 3.86.
While at FSU Christine has par
ticipated in the tutorial program ser
ving as a tutor in math and physics.
Christine is the mother of two children,
Patricia 5 and Bobby, 2.
The criteria for recipients of the
Feng Scholarship stipulates that
eligible recipients must maintain a
Grade Point Average of 3.00 or better,
they must have attained a minimum of
31 credit hours and be enrolled for at
least 12 credit hours each semester. The
amount of the Feng Scholarship is
$600.
Congratulations to two of FSU’s
finest.
CIA Director WilUam Colby and the
former Israeli Intelligence Chief Chaim
Horzog to testify on the Soviet dealings
with terrorists around the world. Both
testimonies blamed the Soviet
misdoings in many areas of the world.
The Russian involvement obviously did
support many subversive and radical
movements to represent soviet interest
in order to make room for Karl Marx’s
thoughts. It looks completely inap
propriate and immoral why the Soviet
Union recruits the mercenaries to fight
the war in which the evil is the dead
end. Many recruits from different
nationalities have pledged to serve in
underground activities oriented to
promote unconsciousness in the third
world and the developed world disap
proves.
The essence of a revolution laying on
the objectiveness mostly humanitarian
and patriotic to express and defend the
human being’s dream. The Soviet
revolution itself had protrayed and
maintained that change.
