Chesnutt Arts Festival on Sunday, April 5. ■ Mr. Prevost Foushee, Area Manager of Anheuser-Busch and a 1977 graduate of FSU, stated that due to the enthusiastic acceptance of the series, Budweiser the collection was divided. While six of the twelve paintings are being viewed on the East Coast, the other six are displayed on the West Coast. Last year FSU displayed the six that are now on the West Coast. The paintings shown this year and their artists are: Hannibal - Ruler of Carthage (247-183 B.C.) by Charles Lilly; Mansa Kankan Mussa - King of Mali (1312-1377) by Higgins Bond; Menelik II - King of Kings of Abyssinia (1884-1913) by Don Miller; Osei Tutu - King of Asante (1680-1717) by Alfred presents J. Smith; Askia Muhammed Toute - King of Songhay (1443-1529) by Leo Dillon; Moshoeshoe - King of Basutoland (1815-1869) by Jerry Pinkney. Mr. Foushee explained that Anheuser-Busch did extensive research of written accounts of what these kings looked like. They then selected the most verifiable information and com missioned nine artists to execute the paintings. Two of the artists, Charles Lilly and Higgins Bond, are native North CaroHans. Great When asked the appropriate value of the paintings, Mr. Foushee stated, “You can’t put a dollar value on something like this.” He added further that the paintings hold a priceless heritage and sentimental value. The Arts Festival is sponsored by the Division of Humanities and Fine Arts of FSU. The week-long festival in cluded showings of three classic films, a lecture on the little-known biography of Frederick Douglass by Chesnutt, and music, drama, and poetry presen tations. of^Vftica Hannibal - King of Carthage on right (247-183 B.C.)
