ORGANIZATION NEWS
Kappa Delta Pi
Kappa Delta Pi, the Honor Scoeity
in Education, recently held its Spring
Induction ceremonies in the Rudolph
Jones Student Center at Fayetteville
State University.
Those inducted included both
students and faculty and are as
follows: Wanda Barefoot, Teresa S.
Bass, Renate S. Blanton, Melinda S.
Davidson, Sheila L. Furrell, Pamela J.
Canady, patricia C. Lewis, Tracy A.
Lewis, Bradford L. Seadore, Nancy M.
Shotwell, Dr. Doris L. Brightharp, Dr.
Ann Holmes, and Dr. Samuel C.
Moore. A Reaffirmation Ceremony
was also held to welcom Laronda G.
Freeman.
After the ceremony, each new mem
ber was asked to present an “abstract”
from his/her pledge project which was
an annotated bibliography entitled
“Froming an Acquaintanceship With
Kappa Delta Pi Literature.” The
project was to be directed toward the
individual’s field of study. The ab
stracts proved to be quite informative
and presented the audience with an in
sight into the various topics and studies
featured in The Kappa Delta Pi Record
and Focus.
The featured speaker. Dr. E r nest
McNeill, area chairperson of the
education department at Fayetteville
State University, spoke briefly concer
ning the dedication required to main
tain the standards of excellence in
academics displayed by the members of
KDP. He also spoke of the necessity of
member’s assistance to other students
as a contribution to excellence in
.ei\ication.
Friends and family joined the mem
bers in refreshments and a social hour
after the program. A special guest
from Durham was the Chapter Foun
der, Dr. Minnie Forte.
Delta Mu Delta
Delta Mu Delta, national business
administration honor society, held its
spring initiation at Fayetteville State
University on Thursday, April 15 at 2
p.m. in the Butler Little Theater. The
FSU chapter inducted twenty students
and two honorary members. Mr. John
Ayers, CPA at Moore & Price, was the
speaker for the initiation ceremonies.
Miss Jacqueline Redding, senior
business administration major, serves
as president of Gamma Beta Chapter.
Dr. Grace Black and,Mrs. Nqrma
McLauchlin serve as co-advisors of the
local chapter.
Alpha Phi Alpha -
Recently, the Epsilon Zeta Chapter
of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc.,
held a benefit fashion show for the
March of Dimes Birth Defects Foun
dation of Fayetteville.
The March of Dimes Birth Defects
Foundation is an organization
established to do research in the area of
birth defects. Through the work done
by this and other such organizations,
much progress has been made in this
area and it is hoped that one day many
birth defects may be eliminated. A
great majority of the funding for such
research is done through private
donations and fund raisings of this
sort.
This particular function was an
overwhelming success. Held in the
Seabrook Auditorium on the campus
Dawson Elected VP
Of National
Honor Society
Terrance Dawson was elected vice
president of the Alpha Kappa Mu
National Honor Society during the
44th Annual Convention of Alpha
Kappa Mu. The convention was held in
Tallahassee, Florida on March 25-27.
Dawson sent pictures and resumes to
70 universities throughout the United
States. He also said they had been
working toward this campaign since
February of 1982.
Dawson said credit for him being
elected vice-president goes to Carolyn
Johnson, his campaign manager, John
Stone and Minnie Futrell, members of
his campaign committee. Dr. John
Wolfe assited him with his speech
writing and Dr. Edward Hill also
assisted in the presentation of his
speech.
A junior majoring in Business Ad
ministration with a concentration in
Accounting, Dawson’s ultimate
academic goal is to obtain a law degree
in the field of taxation.
Dawson was born in Monroe,
Louisiana. After graduating in 1972
from Carroll High School, he joined
the Army in 1973. During his military
duty he held the position of Ad
ministrative Assistant. In 1979 he
received a honorable discharge from
the Army.

Fashions for this event were
displayed by Fashion Producers, Ltd.,
a fashion group here on campus. All
proceeds were donated to the March of
Dimes.
“Little Miss FSU”
Pageant To Be Held
The Fayetteville State University
Cumberland County Alumni Chapter
will hold its second Annual “Little
Miss FSU Pageant” on Friday, May 7
at 7:30 p.m. in the J.W. Seabrook
Auditorium on the campus.
The public is invited to attend.
Donation: $2.50.
Phi Beta Lamda
Phi Beta Lamda recently held its
spring induction ceremony on April 22.
With the addition of the new members,
the total membership in the Fayet
teville State University Chapter of Phi
Beta Lamda increased to 85 members.
The inductees were: Minnie Futrell,
Eva McCallum, Melinda Smith, Bar
bara D. Matthews, Michelle Wilson,
Willette Faison, Deidre Williams,
Rochelle Gore, Cynthia L. Moore,
Donald E. Jones, Samuel Garret,
Thommasina Williams, Ricky D.
Lawrence, Winifred Colvin, Henry
Outlaw, Bethina Barker, Christopher
Faster, Velma Jones, Elizabeth Brown,
Eleanor McKoy, Patricia Green,
Phyllis Lennon, Lorraine Jackson,

Lewis, Felecia A. Walker, Linda S.
Crosby, Sandra Swinton and Stephon
Sanders.
The FBLA concept was developed in
1937 by Hamden L. Forkner of
Teachers College, University of New
York City. In the fall of 1940, official
sponsorship of FBLA was accepted by
the National Council for Business
Education. February 3, 1942, the first
chapter was organized in Johnson
City, Tennessee. In 1958, a separate
post - secondary division of FBLA -
Phi Beta Lamda - was established.
Fellowship Of
Christian
Students
The Fellowship of Christian Studen
ts (FCS), held their first Annual Gospel
Extravaganza on April 17 in Seabrook
Auditorium. Various University gospel
and church choirs performed.
FCS’ first dramatic production,
“The Rapture,” was presented April
19 and 24.
FCS takes this opportunity to thank
everyone who contributed to their
Clothes Collection Drive.
Accounting
Association
The Accounting Association of FSU
sponsored an Employment Skills
Seminar on April 6. The purpose of the
Seminar was to provide the students
with beneficial information about how
to prepare a good resume and how to
prepare for an interview.
The Seminar was conducted by Mr.
and Mrs. Dimitri Sleem who head
PREP (Professional Resume and Em
ployment Preparation) in Fayetteville
on Hay Street. Mrs. Sleem (Ms.
McKinney) teaches business courses at
FSU.
Political Science Club

Students simulate the UN Security Council
The Political Science Club took part
in a model session of the U.N. Security
Council at Appalachian State Univer
sity.
The revolution in El Salvador', the
annexation of the Golan Heights by
Israel, the continuing problems in
Kampuchea, and Namibia’s quest for
independence - all of these were
questions debated in the simulated
session.
Fifteen colleges and universities par
ticipated in the sessions, which began
on Friday March 19 and continued
through Sunday, March 21. Carolyn
Johnson, Cheryl Washington, and
Sheikh Tejan of Fayetteville State
University represented the countries of
Guyana and Uganda - two of the non
permanent current members of the
Council.
The Fayetteville State delegation was
able to'' obtain passage by the Council
of a resolution in support of Namibia’s
struggle against South Africa. A cer
tificate of “honorable mention” was
awarded to FSU for its contributions
toward resolving some of the problems
on the Council’s agenda.
Through the efforts of members of
the Political Science Club, con
tributions and help from individuals
students, faculty and Dr. B.C. Patter
son, faculty advisor, these students
were able to take part in an enjoyable
and valuable field experience.
Next year, the Political Science Club
plans to participate in the model OAU
Conference held annually at Howard
University.
