A U. of Pennsylvania Education Professor is launching a
research project which focuses on gang rape in fraternities. Peter
Kuriloff is interested in the issue as part of his study of small
groups, and whether there is something within fraternities that
promotes negative attitudes toward women.

A U. of Texas Fraternity issued a public apology after the Black
Students' Alliance objected to its posters for an annual party. The
event is named in honor of a former porter at the fraternity, and
posters and ads for the party included a caricature of the man,
who is black. When BS A protesters showed up at the party, the Pi
Kappa Alpha brothers apologized for having offended them, and
persuaded some of the protesters to join the party.

A $12 million lawsuit has been filed against the national
organization of Kappa Delta sorority by seven members at
Oklahoma U. The OU seven claim they were deprived of their
rights to due process when they were placed on national probation
in December.

A former pledgemater of a Rutgers U. fraternity received a $250
suspended fine as a sentence for a hazing charge made against him
last year. The municipal judge who issued the sentence said he
would deal severely with future hazing cases, but chose to suspend
the fine in this case because the young man had already put in 70
hours of community service.

The Delta Alpha Chapter of Alpha Kappa Sorority
participated in the 32nd Annual Mid-Atlantic Regional
Conference held April 18-21, 1985 in Raleigh, North Carohna.
Members who attended the conference were Kimberly Jeffries,
Teresa Lennon, Deatrice Patterson and Ruth King. Also, in
attendance were Dr. Marye Jeffries and Ms. Carrie Stokes who
are advisors.
