This group is part of the new wave of integrated rock bands (Jimi Hendrix had the first) that are finally earning the respect they desei've. "Experimental" is perhaps the only word to describe the sound of this band. Their sound reflects many different influences-from rap to avante- garde jazz. One of the group’s fortes is their lead singer/bassist Doug Pinnik. This guy can really sing! His distinctly Afro- American voice stands out and complements the thick "Take 6"- style harmonies the trio produces. "Faith Hope Love" takes a mystical look at religious themes, especially on the title track. The phrase "Faith, Hope, Love" comes from 1 Corinthians XIII. This is the most emotionally charged song on the album. Black History Month 199J JANUARY 28 Harlem Globetrotters, Cumberland County Civic Center, 8:30 p.m., admission $12 and up. The most challenging track is "Talk To You." Its driving, heavily syncopated verses are broken up by frequent tempo changes. Speed metal fans should like "Talk To You" as well as "Moanjam", an overt imitation of today’s "hardcore" metal sounds. "Everywhere I Go" and "Mr. Wilson" display the band’s shockingly impressive harmonies, (a heavy-metal band that can sing-who’d have thought of it?!) "I’ll Never Get Tired Of You", "Six Broken Soldiers" and "Legal Kill" are impressive ballads that, again, showcase the band’s vocal talents. So if you like progressive rock bands like Emerson, Lake, and Palmer, Jethro Tull, RUSH, and Kansas, as well as metal bands like Living Colour, Metallica, and Accept, then you’ll really dig Kings X. If you are a rock fan, you’re sure to be stunned by "Faith Hope Love." It gets 5 out of 5 stars, and is one of the best rock albums of 1990.
