What’s Going Wrong? The outlook for the 1991 Bronco football season has become cloudy. The fans expected the team to have a tough season, but they never imagined it to be this bad. Thus far, the goals that were set by Coach McDougal before the season have yet to be met. The Posse is looking at a disappointing 1-5 record. So far, the Posse’s only win was due to forfeit by Carson-Newman. This win, of course, will not be registered in the minds of the players and coaches as a real, hard-earned win. Possibly, the team as a whole may feel that now they must prove that they are indeed capable of winning a game by simply outscoring their opponents. It’s no secret that teams like Carson-Newman, Howard, and EVon were in a tougher division. So, when Elizabeth City came to town, the crowd and the players felt confident that the "rocks were out of the road." Unfortunately, the Posse lost, 21-6. The following week, the Posse was on the road to Elon. Last season, the Posse stunned the ’higher division’ team by defeating them at the Bronco Stadium. Elon felt they had a point to prove and did just that. The Posse fell to Elon by a score of 31-0. Despite the big loss, several players were selected as CIAA players of the week and Kenny Frazier leads the CIAA in all purpose yards gained. Week five of the 1991 season didn’t get any easier. The Rams of Winston-Salem State came to town hoping to repeat last year’s rather large victory. The Posse led at the half with a score of 8-6. Cheers rang out and the team exhibited an attitude that took everyone by surprise. Coach Lindsay stated, "For the first three quarters, a winning attitude was displayed by the Broncos’ that was not there all season." The Posse captain, Foster Wilkins, felt ’’the team wants to win and that is very important because a victory is most capable (sic) to those who want it more." Winston-Salem came back the second half to out score the Posse, 28-8. Even though the team lost. Coach Lindsay was plea$ed ,iMttbinthe "killer attitude" and went on to state, "If the winning attitude stays present and our young warriors taste that first victory, nothing will stand in our way. The Bronco Posse is alive and well." It seems evident that the Posse has the experience and heart that it needs to win a football game. Coaches see it, the fans see it, and even the players can sense it but the score does not reflect it. All of which makes one wonder "what is going wrong?" Lady Broncos' Have 'Unity', Lack 'Killer Instinct' Lady Broncos coming together for the The 1991 Fayetteville State University Women’s Volleyball team, coached by Elorine Hill, is on its way to being ranked one of the top four teams entering the CIAA Championship Tournament. Coach Hill expresses a great enthusiasm about this year’s team. In comparison to last year’s team, she says that this year’s team has more depth, players are always in the right positions, and that there is an additional setter. However, like all teams, the ladies need a lot of work. When asked what she liked best about her team. Coach Hill simply replied "the unity," but she dislikes the master plan^ fact that there is no "killer instinct" within her young ladies at crunch time. "We need to be more focused and more aggressive." Coach Hill’s expectations are high. She expects her team to get better with every practice. She also expects two of her returning players, Elizabeth lijima and Tracey Jackson, to contribute more and show leadership as they take on the role of captains. Overall, Coach Hill is pleased with her team and conveys hope that her young ladies maintain a positive attitude and seriousness about the team, its goals, and its accomplishments. So far the team has a record of 6 wins and 8 losses with 9 regular season games to play before the tournament.
