any stock in Xavier Black Enterprises?"
Bypassing a yes or no response and
surely exhibiting the worst habits of the
best politicians, Hollywood asserts,
"Well, my stock is this: for Fayetteville
State students to have a super
homecoming, we lose no money. That’s
However, Hollywood’s failure

leads Dr. Ghee to state, "The other
point I want to make is, I’m not giving
you information that I called across
campus to get. I’ll go so far as to say to
you (that) the S.B.I. (State Bureau of
Investigation) gave me this information.
It’s not heresay...We have fraudulent

Dr. Hackley, who sat quietly
through most of the meeting, did voice
his concerns. "I’m still concerned about
the guy we gave $22,(X)0 to two years
ago, never paid us back, claimed he had
used up the money, and his name is on
here. That bothers me."
to Dr. Ghee that the situation is actually
the administration’s way of denying that
they engage in sloppy business
negotiations doesn’t ring true in light of
Dr. Ghee’s response at the Senate
meeting. "I just wanted to assure you
that in any concert that I’ve ever done
as Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs,
there are certain particulars you always
check out...One of the things I was very
concerned about was, whenever you pay
a promotor’s fee, you should take part
of the profit. In this contract you have
no way of getting profit."
Ignoring the precise
bureaucracy necessary for the
exf)enditure of students’ funds,
Hollywood frustiatingly asks, "What do
we do. Dr. Ghee, when the show goes
on and we have no student tickets?" "I
have not authorized that show to be
promoted in the name of Fayetteville
State University. You do not have the
authority to do that." But, Ghee went on
to say,"I don’t want to sit here and see
you lose $13,0(X) because I simply
signed off on something that to me does
not seem kosher."
The Senate meeting is
adjourned with the understanding that
Fayetteville State will not be promoting
the concert. According to Dr. Ghee,
discount tickets will be available to the
student body, but Xavier Black
Enterprises will not be promoting the
event for Fayetteville Stale University.
Broncos’ Voice, in the interest
of fairness, permitted Hollywood to
submit a written statement to be
published. That statement, originally
submitted on ripped out notebook paper,
is reprinted here in its entirety.
This statement to the Voice has
prompted many questions, as yel
unanswered, and asserted many
statements that do not ring true. (The
Voice contacted Hollywood three times
for an interview concerning his written
statement. Hollywood, at first, declined;
on the third attempt, he failed to show
Hollywood’s allegation that
students’ activity fees are "being held
and used by prodigious pocket vultures
such as Dr. Ghee" is surely based on
erroneous assumptions and possibly
Hollywood’s lack of understanding
concerning activity fees.
Dr. Sexton, advisor to the
Senate Committee, reports that "many
organizations and activities are funded
with the students’ activity fees." These
organizations and activities include the
band, choir, activities sponsored by the
Student Center, Broncos’ Voice, all
homecoming activities and others. With
37(X) students paying $90 (totaling
$333,000), Hollywood does not believe
$25,000 is a fair amount for SGA.
Broncos’ Voice, operating on 84% less
than SGA’s budget, finds Hollywood
severely deluded in perspective.
What is most appalling, and so
ludicrously contradictory, in
Hollywood’s statement is the inferred
martyr-inspired threat that he would
"resign as SGA president...if this concert
doesn’t commence." However, at the
Senate Meeting, both Dr. Ghee and
Hollywood asserted that the show would
go on; in paragraph 5 of Hollywood’s
statement, he claims that representative
Greenwood states the same. However,
the pseudo-threat seems to be an
advance for the next sentence, a
challenge to the administration to "put
Postscript: I ran into Anthony Ratliff,
the acting Vice-President of SGA, in the
Student Center on 10/18. Responding to
questions surrouruiing the controversy,
he stated, "I feel that the situation has
caused confusion not only among the
SGA but the FSU family as well.
Carefully answering questions
concerning Hollywood specifically, he
iterated, "Until proven guilty, / think
Mr. Haywood is an innocent man but, if
proven guilty, actions should be taken."
Wondering exactly how "action should
be taken" Ratliff stated, "1 do not know
(who the judicial body will be)."
On 10/19, while walking in
Cross Creek Mall, I noticed posters for
the concert in various stores, blatantly
advertising the show as Fayetteville
State’s Homecoming. I asked the clerk
at Record Bar who put the posters up
and how long they had been there. "He
came by today and pul them up," she
BV: "Who is he?"
RBC: "Some guy...he works
with Guy's management."
BV: "Someone from
management is hanging posters?"
RBC: "I guess so."
I encountered a similar conversation at
Camelot Music Store.
Returning to campus in the
afternoon, 1 spotted Ratliff and showed
him one of the posters given to me at
Record Bar. I asked him who vwas
hanging them up. He said, "Hollywood

To The Press
To my fellow students:
I, Hollywood Haywood, being of sound mind and body, hold office as S.G.A. President of Fayetteville Slate
University. Since I have been in office I’ve held this prestigious position with honor.
One of my soul endeavors was to produce the mos! spectacular event of the year for the students...a
Homecoming concert. In the past weeks I’ve come in contact with the private investment team of Xavier Black
Enterprises, who so graciously offered to sponsor Fayetteville Stale University with the ever so popular group Guy
with Naughty by Nature (known to the public for their platinum hit "O.P.P.")
Fayetteville State Student Affairs Department, headed by Dr. Harry J. Ghee, was presented a formal contract
by Xavier, which stated the University’s freedom of liability in accordance with the concert if they were interested
in having a prosperous homecoming.
The decision was in the hands of Dr. Ghee and staff. Their reply was negative. Dr. Ghee shied away from
his obligation of allowing you, the students, the opportunity of enjoyment. We, as students, pay an overpriced activity
fee to be used for reasons of amusement and leisure; but instead, our funds are being held and used by prodigious
pocket vultures such as Dr. Ghee.
When representative Charles Greenwood left the contractual meeting he stated the homecoming concert "will
go on" regardless of school involvement
Mass advertisement continued for this gallant event while Dr. Ghee and staff pouted and shook their fists
with false allegations of the concert being a "scam" to make up for their poor business negotiations. Tickets were
presented at a discount price by Xavier (@ 12.99) but because the department didn’t comply, we - the students -
must pay the full price of $16.50 and $17.50 at the door instead of $10.00.
My fellow staff and I pleaded with the Finance Department but to no avail.
So, to conclude my statement and to prove to my staff and peers the legitimacy and confidence I have in
my decisions, I am willing to resign as S.G.A. President of this university if this concert doesn’t commence. In
addition, I challenge Dr. Ghee and staff to put their positions on the line if they dare.
Let it be known, Hollywood Haywood is a man of his word, and my word is always bond.
