UNO System Chancellors and Community College Presidents Make Announcements on Higher Education Bond Issues In a rare joint appearance, the Chancellors of Fayetteville State University, UNC- Wilmington, and Pembroke State University, as well as the Presidents or representatives of Fayetteville Technical, Bladen, and Robeson Community Colleges hosted a press conference on October 14, 1993 in the Chancellor's Conference Room at Fayetteville State University. The purpose of the appearance was to discuss the upcoming higher education Bond Issues Referenda. Other stops included Elizabethtown, Laurinburg, and Pembroke State University. North Carolina state legislators placed Bond Issues for public universities, community colleges, clean water projects, and state parks on the November 2nd ballot with only one dissenting vote. All members of the press, as well as business and community leaders, were encouraged to attend. REMEMBER TO VOTE FOR THE NOVEMBER 2ND REFERENDUM!• Minority Leaders Fellowship Program The Washington Center for Internships and Academic Seminars invites FSU's participation in the Minority Leaders Fellowship Program. The Center established the program in 1989 to provide talented and motivated students with opportunities to explore leadership issues in Washington D.C. The value of the fellowship is $5,000, and all program and housing expenses are paid by corporate and foundation donors. With its nomination of students, the university agrees to cover the student' s following expenses: o A stipend of $125/week ($1,875 for the 15 week spring semester or $1,250 for the 10 week summer term) , to be paid to t he student prior to rrival in Washington. o The student's travel costs to and from Washington D.C. In addition, the university agrees to award the student academic credit for the Fellowship ranging from 6-15 credits depending on the candidate's needs and the university's requirements for internship and academic coursework off campus. NOMINATION DEADLINES FOR SPRING SEMESTER AND SUMMER TERM 1994: Spring 1994 Deadline: November 5, 1993 Program Dates: January 27, 1994 May 11, 1994 Summer 1994 Deadline: February 11, 1994 Program Dates: June 6, 1994 August 12, 1994 Questions regarding this fellowship and nomination procedures should be directed to the Dean of the FSU College of Arts and Sciences at 1681. Lecture Series October 25 at 3:00 pm: The Psychology Club will sponsor a discussion in the Multipurpose Room at the Student Center by Assistant Professors, Dr. Susan H. Franzblau and Dr. Thomas E. VanCantfort, on research and ethical issues entitled "Causes of Homosexuality: Biologically Based or Socially Constructed?'
