HAMJAMBO-TUNATARAJIA KWAMBA MTAFURAHIA [Swahili] (HELLO TO ALL OF YOU - WE HOPE YOU ENJOY) CEUD MILE FAILTE [Gaelic] (ONE HUNDRED THOUSAND GREETINGS) For the first edition of The Broncos' Voice, we would like to share with our readers the philosophy and ideals that have been adopted by the whole staff and that govern the production of this campus news paper. The Broncos ’ Voice Staff at Fayetteville State University is devoted to producing a high-quality, stimulating, and informative newspaper for the students, faculty, staff, and administration of Fayetteville State University and for the greater community. This newspaper will adhere to the highest standards of writing and journalism, focus ing objectively, impartially, and substan tively on academic, intellectual, educa tional, and other newsworthy matters per taining to Fayetteville State University and to the whole “idea” of theimiversity itself. The staff of The Broncos’ Voice pledges itself collectively to adhere to jour nalistic, ethical, and university ideals by striving to foster and maintain a multi ethnic, multi-racial and cross-cultural view on all matters relevant to the student body, individuals, groups, and society itself through its reporting on the cultural, politi cal, aesthetic, historical, academic and edu cational aspects of life pertinent to the Fayetteville State University community and to the greater society. We further wish to encourage and cultivate intellectual growth and excellence of scholarship in students by exploring and reporting on educational issues that affect the Fayettev ille State University campus and the nation as a whole. We also seek, through intellec tually stimulating reporting, implicitly to encourage in students independence of mind and clarity of thought and interpretation; to educate them; to foster, through objective, fair, and disinterested reporting, a spirit of humanitarian cooperation and understand ing; and unobtrusively to inspire them to contri'iute educationally, culturally, aes thetically, and ethically to the good of individuals, to the good of society, to the good of the social order, and to the good of humankind. We, The Broncos’ Voice staff, are concerned with the quality of the academic atmosphere at the University and believe it our ethical duty and obligation to endeavor to maintain and acknowledge the highest possible levels of academic freedom, aca demic integrity, and objectivity in our re porting on and coverage of matters and issues relevant to this institution and to the society as a whole. Therefore, we shall unfailingly endeavor to produce a newspaper of high quality in its journalistic, compositional, and visual qualities, addressing can^us issues not only in a detailed, impartial, and scholarly manner but also in a culturally and ethni cally sensitive manner to acknowledge, honor, and respect the dignity inherent in all human beings. CAMPUS CALENDAR AND EXTRA-CURRICULAR EVENTS We shall seek to announce and to report in detail on all extra-curricular activities, lectures, cultural offerings, projects, stu dent and faculty publications, other pro ductions, and offerings that are design^ to cultivate intellectual growth in students and faculty by providing opportunities for them to learn, to expand their minds, to appre ciate the arts, to express themselves crea tively, and to enhance a love of the creative arts, of learning, and of knowledge. STUDENT FORUM ARTICLES We shall provide, through an eclectic array of continuing articles, special inter views, reports, and editorials, unfailingly objective and detailed reporting on matters relevant to students, faculty, staff, and the administration. We, further, intend to pro vide a Student Forum section in the paper for students and other members of the academic community at the university to discuss and address issues related to aca demic affairs and to student life, with the ideal of trying to encourage positive and fair solutions to any problems related to students’ academic and educational devel opment. THE IDEA OF THE UNIVERSITY We shall concern ourselves objectively with the quality of education offered to all students and shall approach the discussion of academic matters, campus evaits, and campus news in an objective, fair, and scholarly manner, being ever mindful of the inviolability of academic freedom for all of the university commimity and ever watchful and vigilant in maintaining the right of all readers to be provided with objective, accurate, and detailed informa tion and rcfXMting within the rights and privileges articulated in the First Amend ment to the Constitution of the United States of America. MULTICULTURAL IDEALS We believe that The Broncos’ Voice staff should be truly representative of the student body at Fayetteville State Univer sity in terms of its ethnic and cultural diversity, that the paper and staff should always be mindful of the eclectic ethnic, cultural, and cross-cultural composition of the imiversity community, and that the paper itself should never implicitly or inadvertently advocate or reflect any pro vincial, parochial, oi> ethnically insensitive slant in the coverage of student life and univwsity issues.
