HThe Broncos’ Voice December 1993 Club Welcomes New Faculty, Holds "Sociology Week" The Sociology Club held its Fifth Annual Sociology Week in November. The themes were Hospitality Day with a cake cutting in appreciation for soci ology instructors. Senior Recognition held at Golden Corral, Sociologists’ Day with all majors wearing the name of favorite sociologist and explaining why, a Bake Sale as a fund-raiser for a needy family, and T-shirt / Sweatshirt Day. There is a new faculty member in Sociology, Dr. Sung Pyo Jun. He re ceived his B.A. degree in Journalism and Mass Communications from Korea University in Seoul, Korea, his MA in Sociology from Iowa State University, and his Ph.D in Sociology from the University of Minnesota. His areas of specialization are complex organizations. the sociology of aging, statistics, and power relations. When asked “Why Sociology?”, Dr. Jun said he was motivated to go into the field because as he studied mass communmication, he came to view it as a subfield of Sociology. He also wanted to study society and to understand the political unrest occuring in Korea. ‘'Why Fayetteville?” He likes the milder cli mate, the size of the University, the proximity to both the mountains and ocean, and it puts him in closer prox imity to his parents in Pennsylvania. He likes the cultural diversity of the area and the large number of ethnic churches will allow him to continue his research in that area. Miss Johanna Oxendine and Mr. Ernest Locklear, led by Dr. Ved Prakash represented FSU at the Graduate Fo rum at Appalachian State in October.
