"ow that our first year is draw
ing to a close, I’d like to take
some time to offer kudos to
the people behind the scenes without
whom this paper may well not have
been published. Chancellor Hackley
must be commended for realizing the
dire need and assigning an advisor with
the intelligence, grace, will and strength
that is Dr. Linda Barlow: the spirit that
allowed us to be. The staff philosophy
and quality standards she established
and maintains will ensure that The
Broncos’ Voice viability extends beyond
the boundaries of time or mediocrity.
It’s no understatement that without her
involvment, this publication would
have been relegated to the realm of the
unknown. Those familar with the BV
have stated that this is the possibly the
best product they've seen produced in
the paper's history. This accomplish
ment is in no small way the direct re
sult of her concern for FSU and the BV.
I will offer that if you don't know Dr.
Barlow, by sharing this publication you
have become aware of her ability to in
fluence and direct students to reach the
zenith of their abilities. She is the an
chor that holds our ship steady and one
of the finest examples of what FSU has
to offer the brightest and best who
might be looking for a good reason to
join the FSU family. Dr Barlow, I think
we'll keep you! Prof. Beverly Miller is
our Advisor Ad Hoc. Her guidance and
advice concerning themes, content, and
voice encouraged the perfect marriage of
Form with Ideal. Natalie Schaefer was the
reason the product got in your hands. She
crunches that kept us all just a little
too late! That Dennis Allman is our
technical expert pales against the in
tangibles he brings to our function.

put in too many twelve-hour sessions that
stretched into the A.M., cutting and past
ing our stories and pictures into a format
you could enjoy. It’s scary to think what
might have been (or not have been) had
she not sacrificed. A special shot out to
her very cool husband Marty, for pa
tiently putting up with those deadline
He is the life-spark that we all feed
from. Kathleen Barron is the reason
our initial presentations were so com
plete. She had the unenviable task of
compiling and typing all news releases,
calendar items, and article submis
sions. Her efforts were irreplaceable
and she will be sorely missed. Brad
Wright is our staff “jack of all trades."
Besides managing the advertising and of
fice paperwork, he also settles our fre
quent domestic disputes. Matthew
Royal has the eye of a falcon and the
wisdom of a sage. He ensured that our
end product was tight, sharp and to
standard. His editorials were perceptive
and provoking, as is he. Hats off to a
good job by a good friend. Shawn
Johnson, William Shelton, Brian
Smiley, and Steve Sellers provided the
sweat, sore feet and strong backs needed
to deliver the Broncos’ Voice around the
campus and throughout the surround
ing community. Earl Moniz gets a spe
cial nod for providing his outstanding
analysis of what a university should be,
as does Lishan Harrison’s presentation
of the commuter student perspective.
Scott Sorrell is an author-in-waitingj
thanks for the contributions. Thanks
to Athina Williams, Jamilya Sneed,
Aquilla Highsmith,Terrence Sherrod,
Terrance Thomas, the Yearbook (the
pictures, man, the pictures) and the Stu
dent Center staff (for not locking us in!)
and anybody else who helped in any
large or small way that I have failed to
mention.
I guess the most important observation
that could be made about the people
who were “in the know” was that an
eclectic group of very creative people
came together for a common cause and
gained something no one could have
planed or bargained for in the
process...friendship.
