ftroncos’Voioe September 1994 News Local—National The Political Corner By Albert Scruggs, Jr. Welcome to "The Political Corner." I have agonized incessantly over the discussion of politics and how to present it in this column. Should it be controversial, descriptive, or receptive? As you can see, it is quite evident that I am already starting to "politicize" this column by instilling confusion. What are the real issues? Do you really care about getting involved? Where were you on election day? Did you go to the polls? Did you take someone to the polls that needed a ride? Did you actively support the candidate of your choice? Did you follow up as enthusiastically in the run-off as you did during the initial primary? If you are completely satisfied with your activities during the May primary, then, having completed your civic obligations, the democratic process worked. Politics deals with the promotion of ideas, principles, and shared rules of government; in our case "...by the people and for the.people." True to form, since the first State Constitutional Convention, North Carolina has been a "hotbed" for: controversial politics (as when conversations is the "bash" that Republicans and Independents have been waiting for, especially since they weren't allowed to vote in the May Democratic primary (I did mention Democrats, right ?) . Off with the sarcasm! I need input for my next production of the "The Political Corner." If you don't have any ideas, here are a few to consider: What action should be taken on the issue concerning the closing of Seabrook Pool? Did the election of Congresswoman Eva Clayton to the U.S. House of Representatives from North Carolina infringe upon the rights of "white people" in her district? Should a street or thoroughfare be named in honor of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.? Should the North Carolina US congressional Delegation support the cause for official recognition of the Lumbee Native American Tribe in North Carolina? Drop your comments off at the office of the Broncos' Voice in the Rudolph Jones Student Center. Thanks for the ride! POLITICAL TRIVIA By A!
