Good News and Bad News
Before our Homecoming game with the visiting Golden Bulls of Johnson
C. Smith University, I asked the football team to give me something to write
about. Believe it or not they did just that. Here’s the Good news and the Bad.
Aside from the final score being 14-9 with our school on what would appear
to be the short side of the stick, there are some postive things that need to be
addressed. First of all, our defense held JCSU to 14 points, which is 11 points
below their average. We scored one more point than our average of 8 points per
game. I saw our team show that they have a bag of tricks to reach into (specifi
cally that reverse with a flea flicker tacked on the end). Defensivly, there was a
secondary that was snapping necks on those recivers of JCSU that came across
the middle. I saw a team filled with youth and inexperience manage to stay
close with a more experienced team in JCSU. What they lacked in ability they
made up for by playing with a lot of heart and determination.
The bad news is that it was the last home game of the season for our team.
This was the last game for our four seniors (#21-Darnell Cox, #29-James
Dawson, #53- Tyrell Chatman, #86-Sedrick Utley) and graduate student, #81-
Marcus Davis (game balls to all).
Some things to look for in the future: a more .experienced team that will
have the motivation and experience necessary to fuel them on the way to reaching
their dreams on the football field as well as off the field; hopefully more coaches
to assist in this improving program (the current coaching staff is working as
hard as they possibly can on more home games). After the game, in midst of all
the frustration, the university’s Homecoming spirit was well revived and defi
nitely alive. This was one of the best Homecomings this place has ever seen.
I’m still proud to call this place [FSU] my school, aren’t you?
WE WON!
The Fayetteville State University Bucking Bronco Football Team has won
their first game of the season, 6-3 against The Bulldogs of Bowie State Univer
sity.
The game winning score was set up on a 35 yard pass from Aris Young to
Cedrick Utley to put the ball on the FSU 30 yard line with 2:14 left in the
game. A couple of plays later, opting for the field goal to tie the game, the field
unit took the field. Quarterback Jermaine Bryant was in on the play as holder
for Field Goal Kicker, Todd Eason. The Ball was snapped and Bryant took it
and rolled out to loft the game’s first and only touchdown pass to Defensive
Back Aris Young with only :47 seconds left in the game. The point after at
tempt failed; however, was the enough for the Bronco’s of Fayetteville State
University to post their first win of the season. Better late than never. Con
gratulations to everyone involved.
Personal Notes:
I think that the Homecoming loss finally inspired the entire team to start
reaching for that next level of play.
Game Balls-
To Aris Young for his involvement in the 2 key plays that led to the win.
To the Defense for being ungiving, and only letting 173 yards go on the day
(103-rushing and 70-passing)
The offense made 2 of 2 on fourth down conversions (this means they stuck
It out when they had to.).
To the coaching staff for everything.

Players’ Ball
THE FIRST TO THE COURT
The Broncos’ Voice would like to give mad-props to the members of this
year’s Lady Broncos volleyball team for their activities on the court as well as
their endeavors off the court. They participated in the “Tidewater Volleyball
Roundup,, in Virginia Beach, Virginia during the weekend of September 29
through October 1, 1995. They defeated ECSU, Bowie State, Saint Paul’s, Vir
ginia State and Virginia Union. However they did lose the match against Nor
folk State going 15-6; 7-15; 11-15.
Their hard work and dedication have granted them a second place ranking
in division play with a 9-3 record landing them in fourth place in the confer
ence. You go girls!!
An Individual shout out goes to Reeshemah Parkison a freshman setter from
Kingston, Jamaica. She has been named “Newcomer of the Week,,. Big ups
(thanks Uzi)!!
The Volley ball team has reached another milestone with an upsetting vic
tory over St. Augustine who has not been beaten by a Southern Division team
in a long time. How long you ask? Not since the time when Coach Hill played
in her college days. This FSU team is definitely something special.
Coach Hill has been named “Coach of the Week,, for the second straight
week. Teresa McMillian has been named “Newcomer
of the Week,, for the week of November 14, 1995.
Yet another milestone for the team was their second place finish in the FSU
Invitational Volleyball Tournament held during the week of October 13 and
14. Highly ranked Alabama A&M won the tournament.
ON TO THE GREEN
Our golf team is also making progress in their area as well. Yes, we do have
a golf team here at Fayetteville State University. They participated in the Coco-
Cola Hall of Fame Classic Golf Tournament in Atlanta, Georgia. Out of 12
teams they came in second place. Kevin Lindsay and Lorenzo Juarez were
among the top ten finishers. Congratulations! The Golf Team has been one of
the more quiet programs at this University that has been racking up the acco
lades of success since the early 70’s. Much respect to the Golf Team. Go Bron
cos.
IN THE BACKFIELD
Darnell Cox has again received CIAA honors for his play on the football
field. He was named “Defensive Back of the Week.,, Another FSU defensive
back who recently received honors is our very own Cedric Jordan, for being
named “Newcomer of the Week.,,

Dear FSU Students:
I would like to take this opportunity to publicly thank the students in the
Students Activities Council (SAC) and the staff members int he Office of
Students Activities. These persons worked “above and beyond,, their re
sponsibilities to provide you with Homecoming activities.
The three SAC Officers—Tonia Johnson, Jerell Joyner and Tonjai
Robertson--were instrumental in both the planning and implementing of
these events. Most of the activities were their ideas. In addition to these
officers, several SAC Council and SGA members worked to provide fun
activities. I would specifically like to mention: Latasha Miller , Adua
Anokye, Linda Barden, Daphne Betts, Denise McQueen, Nakiesha Melvin,
Carolco Miles, Candi Stevens, Kelvin Thompson and Demetria White.
It is necessary to have dedicated officers and council members like these
to have successful campus activities. The ’95 Homecoming activites for
students were more that in recent history. Please thank your SAC and SGA
officers whenever you see them.
