SROMCOS' VOICE ^ JANUARY 12,1997 D ARE FSU POLICE GIVING OUT TOO MANY TICKETS? By Tameka Kenan “Oh no, I got a ticket!” This is not an uncommon statement at any University, and recently, it has become a very fre quently made statement on the campus of Fayetteville State University. Trying to meet deadlines and rushing to get to classes can easily result in fail ing to adhere to the parking rules and regulations. How ever, some students claimed that they had paid careful at tention to signs and zone ar eas before parking, but were given tickets; an act that they felt was unjustified. Many stu dents personally bring this problem to the attention of our FSU Police Department. Un fortunately, they have not been resolved. Perhaps, however, it is not the unwillingness of our police department to effec tively assist with the student problems, but rather our un awareness of the actual park ing rules and regulations. With an understanding of these aspects, in the future, these problems may be re solved rationally and without downplaying our FSU police force. On the other hand, stu dents may be correct when so many proclaim that these tick ets are not distributed justifi ably. The following is a brief summary of our parking rules and regulations to answer any questions and to avoid any confrontations and doubts: -No unregistered vehicles on campus. Permits must be pur chased prior to attending classes. -During enforcement hours, permit holders may park ONUy in lots designated on the permit. -Resident students’ cars must at all times be parked in resi dent student lots. -No vehicles witti FSU per mits are allowed in Visitor spaces. -Operators of motor vehicles may not make a U turn on any alley, street, or driveway. -Operators of disabled ve hicles must report same to the FSU Police, including date and time vehicle is to be re moved from the campus; oth erwise, the vehicle is subject to citation and/or towing. -Students are financially re sponsible for citations issued to vehicles traced to direct family members. -Students requesting permit fee refunds must present withdrawal forms with autho rized signatures. -Students cannot appeal cita tions once placed on their academic accounts at the Business Office. Regulations are enforced 24 hours per day, 7 days per week in Resident Student, Handicapped, Fire Lane, and Reserved spaces. In other spaces, regulations are en forced from 7:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. Monday through Friday. You may be fined also for parking along the street, double parking, on landscape, blocking the dumpster, block ing the driveway, or remov ing barriers placed by FSU police.
