Commentary Kappa Alpha Psi Deserves Answers Staff Report The Brothers of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc., are on a mission. Their goal: justice. Sadly, someone deemed it necessary to damage the Kappa’s plot. The marble stone purchased by the Pan Hellenic Council was broken. Each Greek- lettered organization was given one. There are two questions that must be asked. First, who would commit such a heinous crime? And why? The Broncos’ Voice knows that everyone has his or her own answers, and rightfully so. Everyone’s entitled to an opinion. Like others. The Broncos’ Voice can only speculate and play the guessing game. We won’t do that here. What we can do, however, is get into the mind of the perpetrator(s) of this crime. There is no doubt the culprit is reading this article right now. So let’s begin by telling this individual, “You were as wrong as two left shoes.” If you had a problem with the Brothers of Kappa Alpha Psi you should have been man or woman enough to take your beef up with them via a man-to- men or woman-to-men talk. What you probably don’t even realize is that you just didn’t hurt the cun'ent Brothers of the Epsilon Beta Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi, but you caused wounds to Brothers who came through the chapter before you were even bom, including our own Chancellor Willis McLeod, a founding EB Brother. As a member of Alpha Phi Alpha stated in the Alumni Guestbook on the University’s website, the plot don’t belong just to the current Brothers of Sisters of their respective organizations, Kappa Alpha Psi, but every Brother or Sister who came through the chapter. Do you realize the damage you have done both physically and psychologically to these Men? How can you sleep at night? Don’t answer, we already know you have no conscience. If you did, you wouldn’t be wasting your time reading this commentary. You would making your way to the University Police Station to take the blame for your spineless and cowardly act. The level of the damage you caused, however, just didn’t stop with the Kappas. We all know when acts of vandalism happen to a Greek-lettered organization’s property, the first thought to cross everyone’s mind is the crime was committed by a fellow Greek group. Case in point: A couple of years ago, the Ladies of the Delta Xi Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta awoke to find their plot painted pink and green, the colors of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, and the letters “AKA” painted haphazardly about. The Deltas were devastated. So were the AKAs, who vehemently denied any involvement and felt the actions were an obvious attempt to frame them. The Ladies of Delta Sigma Theta realized this crime was the act of sick individuals who were trying to create animosity and discord among the two sororities. Instead of giving the individual the satisfaction of thinking he or she succeeded, the Ladies of Delta Sigma Theta, Alpha Kappa Alpha and other Greek-lettered organizations joined together to right someone else’s terrible wrong. They repainted the Delta plot and returned it to its crimson and cream glory. It’s time to show the Brothers of Kappa Alpha Psi the same love. It’s not sure if this was an attempt on someone’s part to frame Omega Psi Phi, Alpha Phi Alpha, Phi Beta Sigma or Iota Phi Theta. It’s not sure if the Brothers of Kappa Alpha Psi are involved in a conflict with a fellow student(s) and that individual(s) decided to retaliate. That’s not the issue here. The point is that a Greek organization’s plot has been vandalized and somebody knows something about it. If you do. The Broncos’ Voice implores you to come forward. The Kappas have even offered a reward. But don’t spill your guts just for the money. Do it because it’s the right thing to do. To the Greeks: The Kappas need you. They may have already fixed their plot and the wounds after discovering this terrible act may be in the process of healing. Unfortunately, the memories of what has transpired will be around for quite some time. It will be comforting to them to know that their Brothers and Sisters in Greekdom have their back. Your willingness to lend physical and moral support or offer words of encouragement will serve two purposes. First, it will be a huge step toward building Greek unity on campus. The relationship between Greeks has improved over the years and is getting better daily. This gesture can only make it stronger. Second, and most importantly, it will let the culprit of the crime know his attempts at dividing the Divine Nine, if that was indeed the intention, were unsuccessful.
