LL Cool J shows versatility in new movie Different Role For Rapper LL Cool J TMS Campus Report He glosses over the story at first - leaving out the parts about the sprained ankle and raging flames. It’s not until you ask LL Cool J to rewind one quick sec that he delves into how hairy things really got on the set of “Rollerball.” "I had a stunt where I had to jump a ramp and save a young lady whose motorcycle was on fire,” says Cool J. “I pulled her off her bike, but when she let go, the handlebars hooked onto the spur of my boot. So here I am riding with a burning motorcycle hanging off my leg. “It was crazy.” After narrowly escaping serious injur>', the rapper-turned- actor (born .Tames Todd Smith in St. Albans, Queens, in 1968) quickly dropped his plan to be another Jackie Chan _ and encouraged his stunt doubles to get a little dirtier. “I have other things to talk about,” he says. “1 don't need to tell the world that J do all my stunts.” Still, he performed some of the tricky motorcycle maneuvers and flashy Rollerblading in the pyrotechnically loaded remake of “Rollerball.” The update is slightly different from the 1975 sci-fi film that starred James Caan. The original pitted an American athlete (Caan) in violent tournaments around the world. This one is set in very relevant, present-day Kazakhstan - a Central Asian country that borders Afghanistan. ’’Rollerball,” which was actually shot in Canada, examines what happens when an extreme sport turns deadly. Cool J, who shares screen time w'ith Chris Klein (“American Pie”) and Rebecca Romijn-Stamos, says that playing athlete Marcus Ridley was his most physically demanding role to date. In addition to having to learn how' to ride a motorcycle _ “it took me about three months” _ the star had to bulk up. putting on close to 40 pounds. “I was lifting heavily and frequently,” he says. He has since dropped most of that weight. But Cool J - w'ho for this chat sported a fitted red sweater, black slacks and one of his 2,000 hats - is no pint-size perfomier. When it is suggested that his winning smile and strapping build make him a prime candidate for action hero (after all, Schwarzenegger and Stallone are getting older), the actor chuckles. “That’d be cool,” he says. “but I'd like to do a lot of different types of films. I just don’t want to limit myself to that.” See LL Cool J Next Page From Page 4 growing them out, the only thing that you hear the w'omen say is cut it. So what is the deal. You can’t go from no-hair to hair over night. (Unless you are female, ha- ha) Why this is a small issue is because guys and girls are different. Girls no matter what the length of they’re hair try to make sure it look s good, well at least those around campus. It wouldn’t matter if they had hair to the knees or were borderline bald, women will find a way to hook it up. Guys on the other hand have seemed to be a little relaxed in that area. On the average day it w'ould be nothing to just throw a do-rag on the dome and run with it some tie you ma\' see some wave under the do rag, ... but not if you're growing your hair out. It all goes straight down hill. This is where the problem starts. The females will complain especially if you’re with her, which is not expected because every women wants her man to look good and vice-versa. To make sure I have my facts straight it would have been easier to just do a little research. So for starters I just started a little survey to see exactly how many women actually like braids so it won't be biased. The actual turn out was so much different than you would think. Actually not as many girls like braids as you would think and if they did, they still had complaints about the way the braids looked. Every one has seen some one who’s braids were a little fuzz\’. My only thought are since you have to keep getting you hair braided to keep them from getting fuzz>', why not tr>- that jell that women use on finger-w'aves to keep it looking nice. When getting your hair braided have her put the jell on your hair so that after the braids are done the little ends that stick up wall stay down w'hen thejell hardens like in finger- waves. I didn’t keep my braid that long, 1 actually cut my hair last semester so I’m not a braids expert. Most of the girls said the same thing but different versions of it. (Ohh, and they went into detail too!) The survey had a couple of options that you could pick. Ranging from short-n-wavy or clean cut to long-n-straight to long curly. The last place runners in the survey went to hair styles like the Ceasar, curls, long straight hair and the mini-fro. The most bizaiTe hair style went to Carolinea Brown. She wanted a man with the kid-n-play style box with the slant, (girl you know I had to put you in the paper for that one) I doubt she was serious though but guys if you really want to go there its on you, who know's, it might come back.. .yeah, uh-huh.. .right! There w'ere about six people w'ho said it didn’t matter as long as the hair was clean and neat.. The three heavy hitters w'ere with dreads with 15 votes, 2nd place for braids with 38 votes, and the blow out decision short cut hair with its man} different styles at 107 of the 169 people asked. Not even braids really touch this one. So for this season I guess that short hair is in. Also so are jokes, girls made comments about guys with the bald head being sexy accept for the ashiness. That was a new one for me. Never seen some one with a ashy bald head, maybe a couple pointy ones. Other than that, all the complaints were about fuzzy dreads and braids. So there you go, if you are looking for the most liked hairstyles it goes to the short-n- wavy or the clean cut, not to say that braids are not in people are always going to like braids, just not ever> one.
