Page 3 News Chancellor Search Drawing Near Fayetteville State University recently moved a step closer to getting our new chancellor The university’s board of trustees met in closed session for two hours to hear recommendations from its search committee. No action was taken when the board went back into open session. Board Chairman James Burch said after the meeting that the names of finalists would be submitted to University of North Carolina system President Molly Broad for consideration. He has been chancellor since 1995. McLeod said he plans to take a one-year sabbatical to do research on the achievement gap between minority students and white sttidents. He said he hopes to fill an endowed professor’s position in FSU’s School of Education later. Veronica Biggins of Heidrick & Sttaiggles of Atlanta attended Thursday’s meeting. The trustees hired the firm last fall to help screen applicants and narrow the field to about 20. r Willis McLeod will leave his post in July. The search committee interviewed candidates before narrowing their selection for the trustees. The committee agreed last fall not to identify final candidates. Blacks From Page 2 after other races; our ancestors already fought that fight. My message is to instill the idea best stated by Dr. Carter G. Woodson - “White supremacy can only be conquered with Afto-centricity. Self-hatred can only be destroyed with self- love.” We are eventually going to have to get to a point where we can elevate our way of thinking and start loving ourselves and each other enough to stop the ignorance that has been ingrained in us. We must stop worshipping these false idols of sex, materialism, and power and turn our eyes to GOD. Our ancestors’ foundation in GOD is what helped them to endure the Middle Passage and over 400 hundred years of slavery. If we can not get back to the foundation of our ancestors, turn our hearts to the Savior Jesus Christ, stop feeding into the plan that this society has set up to destt-oy us and rise above all of this ignorance, then we are definitely ALL doomed for destruction.
