On behalf of everyone here at the
Broncos Voice Student Newspaper, I
would like to say “Welcome Class of
2009!” Did you know that you are a
VERY important class coming into

Fayetteville State University has
been filled with an abundance of new

because not only are you the largest

because you all have represented so
well for your class!

Freshman Class standing 845 strong!!
If it
weren’t' for
Mark
Zuckerberg,
Dustin
Moskovitz,
Andrew
McCollum,
and Chris
Hughes, one
of FSU's
favorite past-
times would
be non- existent. So who are these
guys? Why they are the creators of the
Facebook. Mark Zuckerberg, the
initial founder, is a computer science
major at Harvard University. He
launched the embryonic version of
Facebook in February of 2004. Now,
over a year and a half later, the
Facebook has reached over 2 million
students at 430 colleges. Facebook
has only been at FSU since the summer
of 2005, but already it's a
phenomenon.
Incoming freshmen use it as a way
to find out about their future
classmates, to get advice from
upperclassmen, and to learn the perks
of the University. It has become some
what of a way of seeing who is with
whom by displaying relationship ties
as well a means for public displays of
affection by signing the walls of your
friends. It is also a means of finding
common interest through groups.
Groups range from religion to
relationships and everything in
We Broncos are a Proud and
Spirited Bunch
When I
came to
Fayetteville
State
University in
2002 I did
not fully
understand
the
magnitude
of what I was
entering
into. I had
never visited
the
Kaity L. Parson univereity so
Miss Fayetteville State ^ didn’t quite
University 2005-06 know what to
expect. Being
in an unfamiliar place, I did not trust my
surroundings, nor did I trust the people
that surrounded me. Nowadays, when I
hear people talk about how nice and
outgoing I am I have to laugh a little to
myself because I know- and those who
knew me back then know- that I have
come a long way since August, 2002. My
matriculation is definitely a product of
my environment, and I must thank
Fayetteville State University for
providing that nexus.
To the class of 2009, I want you to
know that you have a serious learning
experience ahead of you, and I’m not
talking about in the classroom. FSU has
a load of resources to olfer that are at
your disposal so you are really cheating
yourself if you do not take advantage of
them! The people that you meet and the
things you do will have a huge impact
on the rest of your life. College provides
an arena for you to network with people
who may be your future business
partners, best friends, or lifelong
spouses- but you must be willing to step
outside of your comfort zone and meet
and leam from others.
Another thing for you to remember
is that you will change, just make sure
that those changes in your life are for
the better Please don’t let it be said that
you left Fayetteville State in worse shape
than when you came in- and, if that is
the case, make sure that you take all of
the blame for it. Some of your decisions
you will regret, but don’t let those
things be your downfall. Everyone
makes mistakes but you have to pick
yourself up and try it again. I know I’ve
made my fair share of mistakes, but I
wouldn’t change them if I could
because they’ve enabled me to grow
stronger and wiser.
Freshmen class — We are all part of
the Bronco family and due to that very
fact, you are somebody special! So when
you find yourself in the company of
students who attend other universities,
know that you can hold your head high
because you carry the prestige that
comes with being a Bronco.
I look forward to this year and what
you all have to offer to the university

between. We have groups like
“Bronco Pride,” “Can I get a Parking
Lot?” “Greek Group Organizations”
and many, many more! It has also
become a popular way to advertise
parties and get togethers. You can also
see who will and will not be attending
the parties!
It has been said that the Facebook
occupies more time than that of Halo 2
and Madden 2006 combined. That's a
huge statistic, especially when you
consider the people who aren't even
on the book yet. I know for a fact
however that I spend more time on the
Facebook than I do on my Shakespeare
homework. (Sorry Dr. Hyman)
At first the Facebook is truly
addicting. With adding friends,
creating and joining groups, and
reuniting with your high school
classmates, I was up on it at least 4 or
five time a day(don’t act like you
weren’t) But once I had plenty of
friends and groups, my profile was
sufficiently set-up, and I had
(electronically) established the
relationship between my boyfriend
and me, the novelty kind of wore off.
Besides, I couldn't see student
profiles from other schools and that
wasn’t fun. Still faithfully, I will check
Facebook everyday for new messages,
new friend requests and new group
invitations. There has not been one
day yet when I have failed to log on to
the Facebook. Hello. My name is
Khristina Sifontes, and I am addicted
to Facebook!
Help Now! Katrina was
Extremely Destructive
By: Debbie Collazo
We all have heard about the devastation that has occurred on the Gulf Coast
due to Hurricane Katrina. Hurricane Katrina was listed as a “Category Five”
storm that ripped through the Gulf Coast destroying major buildings, streets,
and homes. It flooded major cities and thousands have been left homeless. At
this point, the number of missing people is still on the rise, and estimated in the
thousands. Many citizens however managed to escape for refuge in other states
like Tennessee, Texas, and Utah.
Most of the survivors were safely taken away to the Superdome in New
Orleans. The mission to evacuate everyone from the Superdome is complete,
but the Superdome has been left in disarray. Rescue volunteers are now in the
second phase of cleaning the cities. The second recovery phase is in effect to
identify those missing, while rescue teams are trying to drain the city, and clean
the debris.
On a more positive note, approximately two dozen citizens of New Orleans
are parading the streets and tossing beads to bring back good spirits into the
city. Simulating “Mardi Gras,” the people are painting their faces, wearing masks,
dressing in flamboyant colors, and chanting that their city is not and will not
ever die.If you would like to help please contact the Red Cross at 1-800-HELP-
NOV(^ or redcross.org. You can also link up with Fayetteville State University
clubs and organizations who have initiated a “Lean on Me ” campaign to help
those affected by this devastating storm.
