Step Ya Game Up - I Know the Ladies Feel Me
“Many men, wish death upon me. Blood
in my eye dawg and I can't see. I'm
trying to be what I'm destined to be.
And n***** trying to take my life away.
I put a hole in a n**** for roughing
with me. My back on the wall, now you
gon' see. Better watch how you talk,
when you talk about me. 'Cause I'll
come and take your life away” - 50
Cent “Many Men ”
Okay, so we clearly have heard
and can read the lyrics. What is Curtis
“50 Cent” Jackson really trying to say?
Actually, the real question is this: why
are you so fascinated by what he says?
Furthermore, why are you trying
to live out the lyrics of rappers? Come
on now, you're in college... so why in
the world are you fighting?
This includes one-on-one,
jumping, or engaging in any of the other
forms of physical altercation. In order for
you to prosper in the future, you must
recognize NOW that you need to put the
stupidity behind you. Your ignorance and
apathy makes our entire generation look
bad.
How dare you part your lips to
blame “the white man” or anyone else
for your problems without evaluating
yourself first? Especially, since you are
giving people a reason to look at you
sideways.
“I'm from Compton, Compton,
Murderville. You heard these ****** is
gangsters, and they kill. Rob and steal.
they real, n*****gon'feel this steel”-
The Game “The Streetz of Compton ”
Okay, I know I am trippin’! In
mid-December, Crips gang co-founder
Stanley “Tookie” Williams died instantly
by lethal injection. In case you haven’t
heard or you didn’t know, Nobel Peace
Prize Nominee Stanley “Tookie”
Williams was put to death. What makes
any of you fake thugs believe the same
won’t happen to you?
Your business is your business.
This is true.
But why are you investing your
time and money in becoming a gangster?
You see the road it led Mr. Williams
down... a man redeemed.
It’s a road he encouraged young
men and women not to travel down, so
why are you striving to achieve an
unworthy goal like that?
Besides... you are NOT a thug! Thugs
don’t go to college... and they
DEFINITELY DON’T take the SAT’s.
When I see someone imitating a
gangster, I see a slave master, or at least
an imitation of one.
You are beating the oppressed
when you yourself are in the same
predicament.
Please don’t talk yourself into
believing it’s because of where you come
from because that is BULL! I can
personally attest to the invalidity of such
a statement.
I am from North Philly, and I’ll
be damned if I allow where I grew up to
determine where I am going and who I
will be as a person.
If you’re like me, you left that
environment to get an education. Clearly,
that’s why you’re here.
So why are you trying to bring
that ghetto mess to where you are now?
Where I’m from, people don’t pull out
guns and shoot in the air.
When a gun comes to surface,
people end up dead. It’s nothing to play
with, so please stop playing with it.
Smile for me daddy (What you lookin’
at). Let me see ya grill (Let you see my
what).
Ya, ya grill ya, ya, ya grill. (Rob da
iewelrv store and tell 'em make me a
grill).
Alright I won’t front, I do like
Nelly’s song. But puhleeze... can we get
realistic for a moment?
Dude... have you seen yourself?
Why are you walking around campus
with that crap in your mouth that causes
your breath to stink?
If you want to wear them in the
club, that’s fine. But why would you
walk around campus looking like “yuck
mouth?” Did you know that your “grills”
can really mess up your teeth?
Imagine what would happen if
your future employer were to walk in the
Student Center.
Would you realistically want
them to see that crap in your mouth?
Besides, how are you going to have a
mouth fiill of gold and fake diamonds,
but you are walking?
Where are your priorities? You
truly need to reevaluate your priorities.
You should have invested in a car
instead. While we are on the subject of
cars... why is your whack system and
rims worth more than your car?
Come on man... you are driving
a Honda Hatchback with rims and a
system you can’t even hear through the
thumping. Are you serious? The Big
Caprice Classics are alright.
But keep in mind; aren’t you
giving the police a reason to harass you?
It doesn’t matter if you’re guilty or not.
You might look really suspect to the
police when your young and driving a
big car with big rims, and loud systems.
Especially when some police officers
believe drug dealers are the only
individuals who can afford cars like
these. Besides, you’re investing all of
this money in your car when its worth is
little to none. You really need to get it
together!
This isn’t a male bashing section, or
me trying to tell you what to do. What
I am saying is that you all really need
to get it together. Your priorities are
mixed up. You are here to better your
life and the lives of your present and
future families. Please utilize this as a
helpful hint section. Not a bashing
section. If you disagree, I dare you to
respond. -Keisha Robinson, Editor
