Letter From Editor
Greetings Broncos!
Midterms are fast approaching and tliey always conveniently fall right
next to CIAA. This leaves many students in conflicting dilemmas as to
whether they will attend the festivities in Charlotte, which yield so many
precious memories for students and alumni of the CIAA family, or buckle
down, stay home to study and review for the courses they may not have
been doing so well in. In this case, with proper time management and
discipline it is entirely possible to have-your cake and eat it too.
The CIAA championship is hardly just a sporting event for spectators
toting loads of school spirit. It is a wholesome event designed to cater to
each aspect of college life, from career preparation, to greek life, to alumni breakfasts. Pack all
of your books in your suitcase and pencil study time in between a symposium or two. If you des
ignate two hours of studying during each day of CIAA you’ll have knocked out 8-10 hours by the
time you return to Fayetteville State University, Time management is a crucial factor in completing
any task, be it finishing a degree or losing a few pounds in time for a beach vacation in May. If
you don’t have some type of planner, please go purchase one! It is impossible for us to be able to
retain each single errand, appointment, test, and paper due date while attending class full time,
working part time jobs, and participating in extracurricular activities or community service.
Time management allows us to be more efficient in everything we seek to complete. By
eliminating as much ineffective idle time as possible we are able to build character by discover
ing new hobbies and activities and meeting new people. It is also proven that individuals with top
notch time management skills are socially and' physically healthier with more energy and better
sleep patterns. They have stronger memory skills and have moderate temperaments when placed
|n adverse situations. By instilling structure into your daily, weekly, and monthly routines you gain
a clearer vision of the path leading to your long and short term goals. You may even find that you
have time to treat yourself to a spa day or movie night.
In my own quest to organize myself, I found that making the process fun instead of tedious
encouraged me to continue. I went as far as color coding each of my tasks in my planner. Blue
highlighter for my Air Force related duties. Orange for my academic engagements. Yellow for gym
dates and hair appointments, etc. It is simple and may seem silly to some but one day when we’re
successfully balancing spouses, children, careers and mature social lives, we’ll pat ourselves on
the back for having mastered time management while our loads were still manageable. Enjoy all
CIAA has to offer and let’s be sure to support both our Lady and Gentlemen Bronco basketball
teams!
Financial Aid Woes

As the deadline for FAFSA approaches, March 1st, many students fail
to take the initiative and complete these forms on time to insure their good
standing with Fayetteville State University. Punctuality is vital if students
want to avoid any unforeseen problems with financial aid as well as hous
ing. Furthermore, establishing financial good standing is also essential
to the Department of Housing. For students who reside on campus, the
sooner you get your financial aid requirements taken care of, the fewer
complications you’ll run into with housing.
It’s a good idea to establish a presence in the Financial Aid office other
than when it’s time for refund checks. Face to face interaction with the
counselors is a good way to handle any problems, “From my experience
with the financial aid office here, and from talking to others, the best way to
avoid account problems is to stay on top of everything and communicate
well with the counselors,” says second year student Keith Jackson .
Carelessness can also come back to haunt you when you fill out your
FAFSA. Make sure you go back and check all boxes to make sure every
thing is in order to avoid complication down the road. “I accidentally selected
something on my FAFSA that cancelled my Pell grant, so I had to go back
and correct the mistake with Fayetteville State, which was frustrating and
time consuming,” said Third year student Barron Green. To make sure
issues like these don’t occur, be punctual when turning in all paperwork
and make sure you carefully look over all financial aid documents before
submitting them.
