Broncos end season
41-8 loss to Rams
By DeSean Lawson
Fayetteville State junior running back and
Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association
two-time offensive back of the week, Colon
Bailey Jr., earmarked his own 1,000-yard
rushing milestone rushing for a total 88
yards during the Broncos season finale loss
to the Southern Division Champions, Win
ston-Salem State Rams 41-8 on Nov. 3rd.
Bailey was the first Broncos running back to
surpass the 1,000 yard rushing mark since
the 1994 season. Bailey is only the third FSU
running back in the program history to reach
the milestone. Bailey finished the season
with 1,015 rushing yards and 10 touchdowns
on 178 carries, including a tremendous 5.7
yards per carry.
The mighty Broncos hung tough in the first
half against the second-ranked Rams. The
Broncos defense held the explosive Rams
offense to just 152 total yards in the first half.
The Broncos defense forced three first half
Rams turnovers including picking off Red-
shirt Senior quarterback Kameron Smith two
times. The Broncos went into halftime tied
6-6.
While only managing six points at halftime,
the Rams offense exploded in the second
half by scoring five touchdowns. Smith threw
three touchdown passes in the second half
and backup quarterback Anthony Carrothers
also threw a touchdown pass.
The loss brought the Broncos record 2-8
overall, including a 1-6 mark in the CIAA.
While the Rams ended their regular season
perfect with a 10-0 record, including 7-0 in
league play.
The Broncos offense struggled throughout!
the entire game. The Broncos ended the|
game with just 154 total yards on offense.
Bailey led the Broncos with 78 yards rush
ing on 23 carries and freshmen quarterback
Derek Bryant added 80 passing yards on
10 of 16 pass attempts in his first collegiate
start.
five players were honored before the game|
for Senior Day wide receiver Jamere Pugh,
quarterback Andreas Hudson, linebackerl
Bryce Williams, offensive lineman William|
Hunt, and tight end Xavier Molina-Williams.
So with the Broncos returning 18 starters
next season the program looks to be headed
into the right direction. So to all the Broncos
fans out there, just have patience, the future
looks very promising.
