Photos by Randall Conrad Wi MsMm/ Football Season Ends Broncos end season 41-8 loss to Rams By DeSean Lawson Fayetteville State junior running back and Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association two-time offensive back of the week, Colon Bailey Jr., earmarked his own 1,000-yard rushing milestone rushing for a total 88 yards during the Broncos season finale loss to the Southern Division Champions, Win ston-Salem State Rams 41-8 on Nov. 3rd. Bailey was the first Broncos running back to surpass the 1,000 yard rushing mark since the 1994 season. Bailey is only the third FSU running back in the program history to reach the milestone. Bailey finished the season with 1,015 rushing yards and 10 touchdowns on 178 carries, including a tremendous 5.7 yards per carry. The mighty Broncos hung tough in the first half against the second-ranked Rams. The Broncos defense held the explosive Rams offense to just 152 total yards in the first half. The Broncos defense forced three first half Rams turnovers including picking off Red- shirt Senior quarterback Kameron Smith two times. The Broncos went into halftime tied 6-6. While only managing six points at halftime, the Rams offense exploded in the second half by scoring five touchdowns. Smith threw three touchdown passes in the second half and backup quarterback Anthony Carrothers also threw a touchdown pass. The loss brought the Broncos record 2-8 overall, including a 1-6 mark in the CIAA. While the Rams ended their regular season perfect with a 10-0 record, including 7-0 in league play. The Broncos offense struggled throughout! the entire game. The Broncos ended the| game with just 154 total yards on offense. Bailey led the Broncos with 78 yards rush ing on 23 carries and freshmen quarterback Derek Bryant added 80 passing yards on 10 of 16 pass attempts in his first collegiate start. five players were honored before the game| for Senior Day wide receiver Jamere Pugh, quarterback Andreas Hudson, linebackerl Bryce Williams, offensive lineman William| Hunt, and tight end Xavier Molina-Williams. So with the Broncos returning 18 starters next season the program looks to be headed into the right direction. So to all the Broncos fans out there, just have patience, the future looks very promising.
