Broncos lynch Dragons in Double Header Men: 82-68 Women: 60-42 payETI EVILLE, NC - Fayetteville State guard Anthony Shelton was one of four players to score in double figures on Tuesday evening as the Broncos stepped back into the win column with an 82-68 victory against the Virginia-Lynchburg Dragons at Felton J. Cape! Arena. The sophomore from Cary, NC finished with a game-high 21 points, and shot 7-of- 13 from the field and 5-of*7 behind the three-point line in 26 m i n utes of action? ■■ Fayetteville State improves to 2-4 on the season, while the Dragons fall to 4-6. The Broncos will now take the next 13 days off before traveling to Concord, NC to face the Barber- Scotia Sabers ipn Dec. 11 at 7 p.m. FSU defeated Barber- Scotia 83-63 in its season-opener on Nov 9 in Fayetteville. Louis Craft (Jr., Fayetteville, NC), Juwan Addison (Fr., Fair mont, NC) and Andre Best (Sr";, Raleigh, NC) were the other three Broncos to score double-digit points against Virginia- Lynchburg, Craft finished with t season-high 16 points, Ad dison contributed a career-higtj 14 points and Best added 10. Virginia-Lynchburg had three players score in double figures led by Dennis Gravely’s 16 points. Egor Shakhmetov and Dmitry Zimin also tallied 10 points each. Fayetteville State trailed by five points in the opening min utes at 11-6 before picking up its intensity on defense as it held the Dragons without a basket for over six minutes. Dur ing that stretch, the Broncos went on a 21-0 run after a fast break layup by Addison. A three-pointer by Shelton with two seconds left capped off an opening half in which FSU shot 54.5% from the field and 41.7% behind the three-point line. Fayetteville State held a 48-27 lead at intermission. Shelton recorded a team-best 14 points in the first half. The Broncos didn’t let up off the gas to open the second half as they extended their lead to a game-high 31 points at the 11:51 mark on a three-pointer by Best. Virginia-Lynchburg fought back after the basket and went on an 18-3 run over the next six minutes and 23 seconds. Fayetteville State managed just one basket and one free throw, both by Craft, during the run. The Dragons trailed by 12 points with 3:47 left in the game after a free-throw by Justin Wilson. FSU would close the game out by making five of its final eight free- throws to seal the victory. FAVerreVILLE, no - The Fayetteville State women's basketball team had three players in double figures on Tuesday evening as it increased its winning streak to three games with a 60-42 victory over the Virginia-Lynchburg Lady Dragons at Felton J. Capel Arena. Alicia Person (Sr., Henderson, NC) scored a game-high 12 points, while Aky- sia Resper (Jr., Concord, NC) and Serena Hall (Jr., Virginia Beach, VA) provided 10 each. Tierra Coleman (Sr., Cam eron, NC) pulled down a season-high 14 rebounds. The Lady Broncos, who are off to their best to start under fourth-year head coach Eva Patterson-Heath, improve to 5-1 on the season while the Lady Dragons fall to 2-5 over all. It was an offensive struggle in the opening half as the first basket was not scored until the 16:30 mark on a layup by Cierra Mobely of Virginia-Lynchburg. That was the only lead of the game for the Lady Dragons as FSU would go on a 17-2 run over the next 9:01 to lead 17-4. Fayetteville State went into the locker room with its largest lead of the half at 31-14 after back-to-back free throws by Coleman with five seconds remaining. FSU and Virginia-Lynchburg combined for 30 turnovers in the first half, but the Lady Broncos took advantage by converting the Lady Dragons’ 16 turnovers into 14 points. Fayetteville State shot 38.5% (10-of-26) from the field and 50% (3-of-6) behind the three-point line. Virginia-Lynchburg managed just six first-half field goals, and made one three- pointer on eight attempts. Person had a team-high eight points for the Lady Broncos, while Alliyah Floyd had five for the Lady Dragons. Fayetteville State held a double-digit advantage through out the second half and led by as much as 22 points after a jumper from Hall with 7:07 left. The Lady Broncos made just six field goals, but benefited from some late free-throw opportunities to go 16-of-24 at the line. FSU also received a significant contribution from its bench outscoring Virginia- Lynchburg 19-7 in the second stanza. The Lady Broncos finished the game 16-of-51 (31.4%) from the field, while the Lady Dragons shot 24.6% (15-of-61) overall. D.D. Porter was the only Virginia-Lynchburg player to attain double-digit points as she recorded a team-high 10. Fayetteville State will take the next 12 days off before host ing Salem International in its next contest on Tuesday, Dec. 11 at 5:30 p.m.
