And the Streak Continues
The Fayetteville State softball team increased their conference-winning streak to seven games on March 26 after sweeping the
Johnson C. Smith Lady Golden Bulls in a doubleheader at Seabrook Park. The Lady Broncos captured the first game by an
8-2 score and held off a late JCSU rally to win game two, 8-5.
Junior pitcher, Spencer Embler, continued her impressive showing on the mound against CIAA opponents in game
one. The reigning CIAA Pitcher of the Week pitched her eighth complete game of the season, giving up two runs,
along with one walk, and eight strikeouts.
The Fayetteville State offense gave Embler all the run support she would need over the course of three
innings. The Lady Broncos led Johnson C. Smith 8-0 after four innings as Embler held JCSU to just
two hits.
The Lady Golden Bulls got on the scoreboard with two runs in the fifth inning, but would not
succeed offensively for the rest of the game.
Melissa Vierra took the loss for JCSU in game one.
In game two, the Lady Broncos ran out to a 5-0 lead after two innings. FSU in- ^
creased its lead to six after the fourth; but the Lady Golden Bulls made it a two
run game at 7-5 following a four-run sixth inning. Fayetteville State added ^
another run in the bottom of the sixth on Embler’s RBI single to push its
lead to 8-5.
Freshman pitcher Kristen Bell allowed three earned runs over
seven innings to earn the victory.
Vierra suffered her second loss of the day, giving up
eight runs on 12 hits and one strikeout.
FSU returns to action Saturday, April 6, to face
Shaw University in a double header.

It’s not just the players who put up big numbers.
Fayetteville State University Softball head coach
Miguel “Coach Who” Justiniano collected his 100th
career win last Saturday when the Lady Broncos
defeated the Livingstone College Blue Bears,
12-4.
Coach Who, in his 6th season at FSU,
says “This was of course the first goal of mine
to reach this milestone, next goal is 200.” Also,
Who stated “When I began coaching here, I set the goal of 100 wins
in five years, but I will take it in six.”
After speaking with some Coach Who players, it is clear to see
they have a high level of respect and they seem to be very grateful
to be a small part of this milestone.
Freshman pitcher Kristen Bell, sophomore catcher Clarissa
Pitts, and junior outfielder Daniqua Taylor each stated that it was
well deserved for Who to reach his 100th win. Other players like
sophomore catcher Sierra Henderson-Holmes and freshman
outfielders Brittany Freeman and Kelsey Urquhart are just happy
to be part of the team that helped him reach this milestone.
“I am so honored to share this moment with this team, Assistant
Coach Russ Salazar, and my son, Assistant Coach Michael
Justiniano. It is very humbling and I am so grateful to Dr. McLean
for giving me the chance to coach here.” We all tip our hats to you.
Coach Who, and say Congratulations!!!

University of Louisville sophomore guard, Kevin Ware,
may have suffered one of the most horrific injuries in
basketball history during Sunday’s NCAA Elite Eight
game against Duke.
Ware was blocking an outside shot when he fell on his
leg awkwardly. As he fell, his leg twisted at almost a right
angle. The bone actually popped six inches out of his leg.
Ware was taken to a local hospital in Indianapolis to
reconstruct his left leg. Reports say Ware’s leg was
broken in two places a rod was placed into his right
tibia, according to ABCNews.com. Ware will remain
in Methodist Hospital until Tuesday. Louisville’s Head
Coach, Rick Pitino, say that he is confident that after a
long recovery, Ware will return to the game.
Ware's teammates and fans were appalled at the sight
of his injury. His coach and teammates didn’t hold back
their emotions, while many of them were crying during
the over 9 minute break from the game.
During halftime, Pitino told reporters that before Ware
left the arena, he told his teammates not to worry about
him and to go win the game; and that they did.
Louisville will go on to meet Wichita State in Atlanta
Ware’s hometown, in the NCAA Final Four.
