"TURK UP" By Brandon Davis Turn Up is the new popular phrase that’s being uttered by rappers, athletes, and college students nationwide. The term continued its infectious spread and permeated itself into the vocabulary of almost everyone present at Fayetteville State sophomore class’ presentation of the first Powder Puff football game. The football game featured male and female players battling it out on the field. The biggest surprise of the tournament was just how connpetitive the action on the field was. Weaves were neatly wrapped up in scarves, ponytails were pulled back tightly, and several players even decided to don the menacing stripes of eye black that are regularly worn by the NFL’s greatest on Sundays. Yeah, a majority of the girls playing might have never played a single down of football or even thrown a pigskin before, but as game-after-game was played it seemed like watching a traditional, all male, football game. The girls were definitely there to play! Even though every game’s final score wasn’t close, every team showed that they genuinely wanted to advance to the championship game and contributed several highlight plays that brought oh’s and ah’s from the crowd that showed up under the mildly-scorching, afternoon sun. On another note, the game ended with a player playfully mimicking the Superman touchdown pose made famous by Carolina’s own Cam Newton. The sports section of The Voice is already looking forward to next year’s Powder Puff tournament.
