Page U rfayne Community College November 25, 1968 A SPECIAL MESSAGE FROM THE PRESIDENT BUT, WIIAT ABOUT THE STUDENTS? The only really valid reason for the existence of Wayne Community College is to serve the educational needs and interest of her currently enrolled students and her potential students. Therefore, it logically follows that everything we do or propose to do must hold this objective foremost. ^ Whenever we evaluate an on-growing program or a new proposal, I always ask the question, "But, what about the student? How does it affect him, how will this particular suggestion or thought benefit the student?" Though try as I may to cast myself in the roll of the student, I know full well that it is not always possible for me to think exactly like the student. On ninnerous occasions, informally, I seek the advice and counsel of students in making school decisions. However, I know that only a very snail per centage of the students is involved in this type of approach, i^/hat we need is a more formalized system of student opinion gathering. This student newspaper can serve a most useful purpose in that it will give all of us the forum for communication. I hope that beginning with this issue and in each succeeding issue you will always feel free to express your views and your thoughts so that all of us can share in the benefits of our col lective thoughts. I hope also that every student in this school will always feel free to come by the office and give me the benefit of your thinking. It is only through an effective system of two way communication that we can build together a college which will for all times remain a student oriented institution. Clyde A. Erwin, Jr., President lAfayne Community College
