Student Government Association in session.
New Intramural Program Planned
In an attempt to establish a
new intramural program the
Student Government
Association of Wayne Com
munity College voted at a
recent meeting in favor of a new
athletic program to replace the
present one. The new program
will be an attempt at intramural
sports in an effort to reach more
WCC students.
It was leamed recently that
the athletic program in
existence for the past two years
has run into a financial crisis.
The program has been sup
ported by various state and
local funds. However, a letter
from the state attorney
general’s office ruled this
illegal and funds must be sought
elsewhere.
The SGA was asked for total
support of the existing athletic
program which would cost the
students a minimum of $6500.
This figure was stated by
basketball coach Charles Lee.
Conflicting views were ex
pressed by SGA representatives
and the floor was open so that
questions could be asked.
However, after much discussion
a decision was finally reached
to abandon the present athletic
program in favor of intramural
sports.
Many students expressed
discontent with this decision. A
committee was formed to look
into the possibility of getting
interested students to work on
various fund raising projects so
that the WCC Bisons could
continue. Many students had
indicated their willingness by
b gning cii . ulated petitions.
