THE WAYNE COMMUNIQUE, WCC, GOLDSBORO, N. C., APRIL 2, 1971 - PAGE 3 -m- - ' ( Trophies presented by Mr. Jack Hussey to WCC P.E. Chairman Jim Bennett. Bowling Trophies Presented EDU-2 Plays Engineers No-Names Win Cham pionship. This quarter for the first time in bowling classes, leagues were formed. The first half of the quarter was spent on fun damentals, scoring, bowling etiquette, and the like, then at mid-quarter leagues were formed. Handicaps were established prior to mid- quarter. All this could not have been possible without the help of Mr. Jack Hussey, the manager of Boulevard Lanes. At the end V ■ of the quarter, trophies were awarded. V- -hi These trophies were presented to out standing bowlers. % Asnn«n Intramural Basketball Saw Fantastic Season With Mr. Hussey’s help, we are sure that the P. E. program and intramural program will grow in size and students will enjoy it more in the future. The appreciation of the P. E. department and Wayne Com munity College students are extended to Mr. Hussey and his staff. To start off with, let’s say it was fantastic. It is hoped Uiat each participant received something from this years league. The season was one of ups and downs for some teams, and it was one that saw one team keep its cool and play outstanding I- M BasketbaU. Let’s say a little about each team in the league. First let us take a look at Auto Diesel. This team was a good team with one problem; getting people to play. For some games they would have enough people for two teams, then they would not have enough at their next game. These fellows tried hard and most of them enjoyed playing and had a good time. Then there was Sigma Tau Sigma which entered a team, but the fraternity hadn’t had enough time to get organized. They withdrew their team, and some of the fellows playeid on other teams. The Forestry team was the largest team in the league. This team always showed a lot of hustle all the time. Several of their games were lost by a couple of points. Maybe next year Forestry will win the basketball league fellows. The team of EDU was split up at the beginning of the season. It was felt by the director that this team had too much talent for one team. The team was split by its own members. This was appreciated by all in the league and it helped make the league balanced. Either team could have gone all the way. EDU-1 saw its problems in organization and team work. EDU-2 went all the way to the play-offs for the championship. Delta Chi Omega was a well recruited team. This team was a very strange team. They came through to the play-offs. When this team got hot, it could have gone all the way with ease. They had a cold game, however, when they played EDU-2 which put them out of the play-ofTs. Look for another outstanding team from Delta Chi Omega not year. The New Fraternity had a good season too. This team was a consistant team. They also had the problem of hot and cold, with another problem called turn overs. It must be said that the teams played well together. There was no hogging the ball, and the fellows pasted to the open man when they got the ball down court. Good luck next year, fellows. Now we come to the last years championship team. This team was basically the same team as last year. Due to the fact that the league is a lot stronger than last years was one problem they had. This team played with the same poise; they just were unable to put everything together. Better luck next year. The last team to be discussed is our championship team-the No-Names. This team really put everything together. Having the best guards in the league helped them a lot. This team was not the tallest in the league. They were just average in height. They had poise and composure in every game. They had the ability to get the points when they needed them, and they were not bad on the boards. It was a great accomplishment fellows. Hail the basetball champions of 1971; the No Names. An able man shows his spirit by gentle words and resolute actions; he is neither hot nor timid.—Chesterfield.
