Cesar Berrios:
Living Is His
Thing
During the past year, the
liberal arts department has
acquired students from
Algeria, Denmark, Peru,
France and Cuba. This
quarter it welcomes Cesar
Berrios of Juncos, Puerto
Rico. (For the geographically
minded, Juncos is situated 18
miles SE of San Juan.)
Cesar began his high school
education at the Antilles
Military Academy in Truyillo
Alto. P.R.. He recalls some of
the curriculum, “We got up at
5 a.m., and spent a good part
of the day on military exer
cises, under the supervision of
U. S. Army instructors. The
training consisted of the usual
military courses, including
running through simulated
mind fields, carrying field
packs loaded with 25 pounds of
rocks. Upon graduation the
student could enter the
regular army as a Non-
Commissioned Officer.”
Cesar adds that military in
structions were in English, as
were the textbooks used in the
academic curriculum.
However classes were con
ducted in Spanish. This
unusual arrangement
probably explains Cesar’s
proficiency in both languages.
The Wayne Communique, WCC, Goldsboro, N. C., Oct. 12, 1971—Page 3
At the invitation of Sergeant
Jose Rodriguez of Seymour-
Johnson AFB, Cesar came to
Goldsboro and completed his
high-school requirements at
Eastern Wayne. He returned
to San Juan and enrolled in the
Inter-American University.
To keep himself affluent, he
taught English to first and
second graders, and opened a
boutique or as he calls it a
“heepee store” called
“Uving.”
Cesar, who wants to major
in Law, realized however that
the educational opportunities
offered only in the United
States could help him reach
that goal. His decision to
return was prompted by other
reasons too. The most com
pelling of which was probably
the former Miss Becky
Burckart of Oklahoma, now
Mrs. Becky Berrios.

Discover
Body
Forestry students on field
trips never know what they
will uncover.
The partially decomposed
body of a black man was
discovered approximately 100
yards off the left hand side of
the highway just across the US
117 bypass in a wooded area
between US 70 and US 581.
On Sept. 28 about 3:15, a
forestry class of eight students
instructed by Mr. Floyd Ar
nold happened upon the body
whUe ftey were inspecting
trees during lab class.
According to a medical
examiner, the man had been
dead at least 60 days and he
could have died even in
February.
The man had evidently been
staying in the area for quite
some time. There were old
cans, bakery wrappers, and
some glass bottles as well as
some old clothing lying about.
The man was lying on his right
side in a sleeping position
under the tip of a fallen tree.
Mr. Arnold said there was a
curtain of briars on either side
of the tree and a piece of
plastic which may have
served as a wind break.
The night of Sept 29 Mr.
Arnold received a call from a
woman who said her cousin
was known for spending days
at a time away from home
fishing. No positive iden
tification has been made yet,
however.

the last edition of Look
magazine, it offers something
for everyone. Those of us who
have to produce three meals a

gap, and breathe new life into
African violets will enjoy
reading Better Homes and
