The first game started at 6:00 p.m. and was a hard-fought defensive struggle between Sigma Tau Sigma and Delta Chi Omega. The Sigma Tau’s won the game 7-0 on a nifty play, called the Flea Flicka. Quarterback Lynn Griffen threw a pass to his right end, who quickly pitched out to Ray Robinson, who rambled the last few yards for a six point lead. Bobby “The Toe” Friede kicked the extra point to end the scoring. Both teams threw away many scoring op- portimities due to first game jitters and other mistakes to make the final score 7-0. ★ ★ ★ On Wednesday, Sept. 22, College Transfer defeated Delta Chi Omega 7-0. The program this year is made up of five teams: Sigma Tau Sigma, managed by Gene Harrelson; Fish and Wildlife, Jim Bahen; Forestry, Mark Webb; Delta Oii Omega, Bo Wessell and Bob Hinnant; College Trans fer, Reese Helms and Jerry Robinson. The Schedule consists of a round robin and then a double elimination tournament. The winner will play Mt. Olive College. Jim Bennett, Athletic Director at W.C.C. is directing the program with the assistance of Mr. Bill Homer, the new member of the Physical Education Department. Games are on Tuesday and Wednesday nights starting at 6:00 p.m. Basketball at W.C.C. will be a little different this year from that of the past. After three fruitful years under the leadership of Coach Charles Lee, the Bisons will have a new look and a new coach. Such outstanding players as Qiff White and “Little Bud” are gone. Due to little or no support by the student body, town, and faculty, it was impossible to provide the needs of the basketball program. Under new coach Bill Horner the program will be cut back in three ways: (1) No longer will scholarships be provided for the players. Anyone wishing to try out can do so beginning Oct. 18. (1) All games will be played within a 100 miles radius of W.C.C. (3) W.C.C. is no longer a member of the Community College Conference but will be playing as an independent. Reese Helms, a returning athletics enthusiast com ments regarding these changes: “It seems a real shame to go backward when such an outstanding part of school life was at the top.” Livestock Judging Team Wins In the livestock judging contest at the county fair recently, three students took top honors. In first place and winning $15 was John E. Davis. Out of a possible 200 points John’s score totaled 189. In second place, winning $14, was Mark Best with a tot^ of 184 points. Gary Britt took third place and a prize of $13 for his score of 177. Fifteen students from poultry and livestock classes participated. /TtiN/ mmt Let a stripe go. and what does It do?
